Lemmy is more left leaning because the rights popularity seen on other social media are driven by bots that are not here.

It's just very hard to find a compromise or "agree to disagree" when the topic of debate is something like should LGBT people be allowed to exist. The days are long past where the right/left divide was all about economic policy -- the divide lies along basic human values at this point. You're going to be hard pressed to find people who can engage with you calmly when you're defending a party whose primary concerns right now are stripping away civil rights from their least favorite human beings before all else.

Bizarre Rare Space Explosion Seen Somewhere It Shouldn't Be

TL;DR: we saw a burst of energy (scientific name: luminous fast blue optical transient) that we previously thought only came from a star going supernova, but this burst came from the middle of nowhere in the sky and therefore was not caused by a star exploding. So now we know that these explosions (LFBOTs) aren't just made by stars.

Until a better theory comes along, I will assume we just witnessed our first warpcore breach. A moment of silence for the ship, and may her crew have gotten to the escape pods.

Russian reserves running low as Ukrainian forces make 'tactically significant gains' around the besieged city of Bakhmut, a think tank says

If you want to skip Business Insider here, the "think tank" they're referring to is the Institute of War. All BI is doing is summarizing the July 7th ISW conflict analysis, which you can read directly from the "think tank" here: https://www.understandingwar.org/backgrounder/russian-offensive-campaign-assessment-july-7-2023

Twitter is now completely "walled" (dont wanna rattle cages with a wrong title whoopsie)

It's frustrating, but I'm betting it won't last. With all the people who only visit twitter via links from other sites (or those embedded tweets in news articles), doing something like this will cause twitter's page traffic to suddenly implode. Which will cause their advertisement impression statistics to implode. Which will make their paying advertisers explode. And then twitter will roll it back.

Unless, of course, Elongated Muskrat is intentionally and purposefully trying to completely remove twitter from existence. In which case, this is a pretty clever move.

Holy shit this is a Kbin glitch? I 100% believed the author of the article was just a huge nerd who had found a way to relate Clarence Thomas to Lutan. It... it seemed reasonable somehow...
