What misconception are you tired of being spread?
Propaganda from the fossil fuel industry.
Solar panels are the cheapest source of electricity now. Batteries have dropped in price by more than 90% in the past decade, and are now viable for grid-scale storage, addressing the main issue with renewable energy. EVs are competitive with combustion cars, and in some ways superior. Heat pumps are now superior to furnaces in many locations. The solar punk future is now! But you wouldn't know any of this by listening to the public discourse, mainstream media, and many politicians.

But of course we don't want to poison our child.
You shouldn't be able to smoke outside an ER anyway... People come through there with life threatening problems and need all the oxygen they can get

Love the consent-o-matic extension on Firefox. I've got it set up to auto reject unnecessary cookies when possible, really cuts down on the annoying pop ups.

US beef prices have soared but farmers aren't making more money
The details the article covers are interesting, but not one mention of what is causing record droughts and how the industrial cattle industry contributed to the climate crisis. The end of the article made it seem like a return to normal for the cattle industry is inevitable, but it really is not a sustainable feature of our culture.

YSK Sometimes running into a fire is the safest way out
Direction to go in case of a public transit fire is probably highly context dependent. The real lesson here is to follow instructions of trained emergency response personnel

I want more on this too. Amazon's monopoly has made it so hard to find alternative online stores to buy a lot of stuff, particularly if I don't already know the name of a trusted manufacturer off the top of my head. Even competitor companies like Target and Walmart often offer less selection with higher prices and slower shipping. Also why is it that online retailers seem so scammy these days? Most brands seem to be new/disposable Chinese company names I've never heard of and reviews seem inflated/bot generated.
It seems like my local thrift store has the best quality to price for a lot of stuff, but they don't always have something I'm looking for

Free and Open Media
Propublica is a great nonprofit investigative journalism site that could use your support! They often partner with local news agencies to help give them interesting content and further the impact.
Their stories hold powerful entities accountable for pollution and corruption and have a really good track record of initiating legal or regulatory consequences.
Also there's never a paywall

What's the greatest scheme of all time?
Fossil fuel companies knew about global warming since at least the 1970s. Those companies have used their enormous wealth to reverse trends towards public transit (e.g. Los Angeles used to have street cars...), halt the green energy transition until very recently, and spread misinformation and buy politicians.
Edit: also think about how all of those oil spills, mountain top removal, air and water pollution, cancers, asthma, heart disease that were "necessary for the economy" over the past couple of decades. When instead we could have already had fully sustainable energy systems with similar economic growth. Vote for politicians willing to do something about it.

YSK: US Senate offices pay attention to how many constituents are calling them on a topic. Democracy doesn't end at the ballot box
Thought I'd add that mass phone calls are a tactic used by the NRA and other powerful lobby groups. Getting a lot of their group's members to voice their opinion is the key to their success...perhaps to the point of making an office fearful of the backlash via phone calls for going against them.

Healthy alternative rule
The majority of carcinogens from smoking tobacco are created by burning the plant fibers. Quitting smoking is the number thing someone who smokes can do to improve their health. Vaping exposes individuals to fewer carcinogens than smoking, but still has the negative health impacts of nicotine alone on heart and mental health and still some carcinogen exposure.
SmokeFree.gov has free evidence-based resources to help quit!

TIL putting solar panels on land currently used for biofuels would produce enough electricity for all cars and trucks to go electric
Reply in thread
I disagree , electricity transportation is superior to fossil fuel transportation. 40% of all oceanic shipping traffic is for fossil fuels, which consumes more energy. Plus all of the land based fossil fuel shipping. Investing in grid infrastructure makes the grid more resilient to disasters and distributes energy more directly and efficiently than by vehicle or pipeline. Plus the benefits of less congested shipping, rail, and road routes, less air pollution, and less noise pollution for sea life.

You're doing it now.
Find like minded people, collective action is always stronger than individual action. If you don't currently have a community that is engaged, consider joining a Unitarian Universalist congregation. Unitarians in the US and Europe resisted the German Nazis by creating documents and providing refuge for Jewish people fleeing the Holocaust. Many congregations today have active social and environmental justice groups, often focusing on local action with low barriers to entry. Nobody is expected to believe any particular scripture, but UUs have a common set of principles, the first being everyone has inherent worth and dignity.
