The paradox of tolerance
Reply in thread
Tolerance is, by its very nature, limited. That's the whole point.
It isn't some sort of ideal, like empathy, where more is better (although there are people, mostly bigots, who want to convince us otherwise), instead it is the result of our moral and ethical positions.
We tolerate what we think is ok, we don't tolerate what we think isn't ok.

It wasn't anyone Dutch who decided that the signs had to be removed.

That is the worse crime.

Dune messiah a franchise exploit? How?
It's based on the next book in the series. There is a reason for it to exist beyond making money.

Police Called on Trans Men Using Women's Restroom As Required By Kansas Law
Reply in thread
Good faith compliance is impossible.
Go to the restroom that is not compliant: violate the law.
Go to the restroom compliant with your assigned gender: police is called because you don't look like your assigned gender.
The spirit of the law is to prevent trans people (and anyone else who is not strictly gender conforming) from existing in public spaces.

I think the choice bit in the OP is key. Having someone swoop in to impose structure, no. Having someone help you create structure, yes, and that seems to be what OP is saying.

Important reasons
Funny thing:
When I read 'Scottish National Party', I immediately thought 'Wow, even right wingers hate Trump'.
Turns out that party is left-wing.
Makes sense for Scotland though, since many Scots want to have their independence.

The in-universe reason is that the devil is making people think that the criticism is valid.
Tempting is what they call it, and it allows them to dismiss anyone who appears to be making a good point as consorting with the devil.

Fabric softener is a scam
Reply in thread
Sure, but the point is that fabric softener is not necessary.
At the very least in the case of towels (any type), it is actually counter productive, because it makes the towels less absorbent.
On top of that, it means clothes absorb less sweat, which, at first glance, seems like a good thing, until you realise it means your sweat will now stick to your skin longer, because it can't evaporate from your shirt.

Without capitalism, maybe they wouldn't have continued when they found out there wasn't enough DNA for complete dinosaurs.
Or maybe they would have had enough time to think things through, and use safer/more appropriate replacement DNA.
Just spit balling.
