How to argue reasonably

Fair warning: This only works if the other party, or the people watching the argument care. If the other party is just arguing in bad faith, don't expect to have a productive conversation. If the people watching the argument don't care and just want to see a spectacle, logic ain't gonna work.

LGBTQ conservatives say they feel misled by DeSantis

Conservative LGBTQ+ people make the mistake of thinking their richness or whiteness outweighs their LGBTQ+-ness in the eyes of their fellow conservatives.

It does not. You are being kept around as a trophy. You are who they are referring to in "Some of my best friends are gay!"

The instant it's no longer expedient to have a gay friend nearby, you'll be dumped.

Google distances itself from planned drag performance after employee petition

Each year, Google sponsors a series of Pride events in San Francisco and other locations for employees and the public. This year, the closing event was a “Pride and Drag Show” featuring popular performer “Peaches Christ,” who was scheduled to perform Tuesday at LGBTQ+ bar Beaux in San Francisco to “wrap up this amazing month,” according to a now-removed internal description of the event viewed by CNBC.

So, during Pride, Google sponsors events held at various locations. And people are upset because someone with a weiner is wearing a dress and a fabulous wig while singing showtunes?

Reddit officials forces moderators to reopen subreddits or get overthrown

Reply in thread

If reddit employees start engaging in actual content moderation, reddit will run up against the DMCA's safe harbor protections, which means reddit becomes responsible, as a company, for all the content on the site. Or, at least, in those subreddits.

Ain't no way the legal team is going to let an employee do the actual moderation work. But you're right, they'll find someone who will do it for the power.

[Final Update] My insurance won't cover UTIs for males. Yes, I'm in the US.

My friend, you need to do two things --

One, get treated. It seems you've visited urgent care. They are "real" doctors and, assuming the hospital or clinic the urgent care is associated with is well-staffed and stocked, should be able to get your sorted today. Be sure to get any prescriptions you need filled on-site, if possible, before you leave.

Two, review your healthcare plan. While the Affordable Care Act mandated certain minimum coverages several things happened since that allow people to purchase plans that do not conform to the ACA mandates. On those so-called "catastrophic" plans, insurers can deny or decline to cover all sorts of things. Patients often simply shop by monthly premium cost and don't check coverages. Make sure your health plan is ACA-compliant, and, if not, look into a way to get covered by a compliant plan.

If it IS ACA-compliant, then treating a UTI, even in a male, is covered. You may be selecting providers that are not in-network, or do not have the proper staffing to treat this fairly rare condition, though. It may be worth a visit to your primary care provider if you can't get something like CVS or another "Doc in a Box" to treat it.

‘Never apologize’: How Moms for Liberty teaches its members to spin the media

I rarely agree with or endorse or agree with violence. But the rise of the far-right shitbirds has really led me to believe that perhaps General Sherman really should've gone all the way to the sea.

If I learned anything from playing Civilzation, even when you win a neighoring city over to your side with culture or trade alone, they're always going to be a problem. It's better to just raze the whole damn thing to the ground and start over in the same spot.

edit: I also won't fall victim to the paradox of tolerance. Punching Nazis is a net good. Superman does it, after all.
