Is this just Linux propaganda, or how much of it is true?
I don't know what this clickbait is but Im not taking it. Microslop sucks, and has for a very long time, but they're not going anywhere anytime soon.

Slate is now asking for a second reservation payment of $300
Reply in thread
The problem is not where the money goes. The problem is the increasing nature of it. Typically you pay a single reservation fee and then you purchase the vehicle later. Having a second reservation fee added is not normal.

A non-refundable deposit is a credit towards the purchase price of the car,
I dunno why you keep trying to play word games. Both the $50 credit and the $250 credit both do the same thing, which is securing a place in line to purchase at a later date. They just increased the price and made it non-refundable. It is not in any way a deposit, that happens when you actually purchase the vehicle.
Are you currently in the process of purchasing a new Slate truck?
Not anymore!
Have you bought a factory new car on the past?
Yeah like 5 years ago.

If he did he would probably stop trying to humiliate himself though. But he doesn't. He dives in head first at every opportunity.

Maybe they care more about free speech than my own country!
Yeah, I mean, if you say what they want you to say, they very much care about that. Funny how you say something they don't like and suddenly they withdraw their support...

Now the time has come to begin buying the car,
But you're NOT buying the car, you're just paying more money to keep your spot in line so that you can buy the car later, which is also what you paid $50 for 6 months ago.
This isn't abnormal for highly anticipated cars
I've literally never seen this before.

But now I'm being asked for an additional $250 to continue standing in line. And if I don't pay, I get kicked out of line. So that $50 was for nothing.

If I don't pay the additional $250 do I lose my place in line?

I expect them to do what everyone else does and have a single reservation fee, not this series of fees with different names that do the same thing for ever-increasing prices...

Microsoft admits 8GB RAM is fine for Windows 11, after years of pushing 16GB as the baseline

Nothing. It's not unnecessary. It's very necessary, especially Windows. They're just shifting their perspective because RAM has gotten so wildly expensive.

I mean Bazzite probably still has better hardware compatibility, as they've been doing it forever. Also look into 'ujust' commands because they're super underrated, along with crazy easy software installations with Homebrew and whole-system single-click upgrades (and even automatic background upgrades) with Topgrade.
There are plenty of reasons not to like it as well but this is not a review.

Its not a pre order. Its a reservation to get in line to place a pre-order later, which exactly what I already had.
The question is, if I paid the $50, but I lose my spot if I don't pay another non-refundable $250, what did I pay the $50 for? What value did it bring me, not the company? I got nothing. Just seems like unethical extortion to me. Or maybe some way to mislead investors.

the $300 was to preorder the truck
Its not a pre-order though. That implies you order the truck. But you don't, you "reserve" a place in line to order the truck later. Which is what I already had. Only now it's non-refundable, and we don't even know what the prices will be for the various vehicle types or any accessories.
Again, I ask, what was the $50 for?
