basically, it demands that I:

  1. Permanently take down nitter.net and the GitHub repository, and delete all "X Data" in both
  2. Stop all use of the "Twitter" and "X" marks
  3. Cease all access to X data, including copies
  4. Delete all X account credentials and session tokens 5. Confirm compliance in writing within three business days

The claims asserted are breach of X's Terms of Service, Developer Agreement and Developer Policy; the Texas Harmful Access by Computer Act; and the Lanham Act. It threatens litigation against me personally. X states it has also sent notice to GitHub and to my domain registrar.

That was my first thought. Just tell them it's for AI training. Tech companies will back it because they have to set that precedence.

When did scraping become illegal and can I C&D these fucking AI companies that keep scraping and crashing my servers? Can I sue them for the thousands of dollars in labor and mitigation practices that became necessary because of their agents?

they do pay lawyers to draw it up but its like a threat. saying stop or we will sue. you can sue for anything. its civil court.

if something is illegal, the government will be the one taking action.

Invidious and Redlib are next in Big Tech's crosshairs as Google and Reddit are surely going to be empowered by this.

Also, should the alternative platforms be worried about getting targeted for simply being competition too? Like, what's stopping Musk from maliciously patenting microblogging and using that to go after Mastodon, for instance?

Invidious is different in that they are not scraping the content, it's just a frontend. Redlib and Nitter are both scraping and rehosting the content.

That's very funny in an ironic way but I relied on Xcancel a lot to credit artists for work still on twitter for whatever reason
