The Internet's sweetheart (for understandble reasons) Zdzisław Beksiński

Reply in thread

This is my first time encountering his work. When I read the title of this post, I interpreted it as “artwork title - credited artist”. so I thought that “the internet’s sweetheart (for understandable reasons)” was the title of the artwork in the thumbnail.

It would indeed be perfectly understandable why that crawling mummy thing would be the internet’s sweetheart though.

Honestly? You’d be surprised at how helpful it can be. I’ve sent routes with a slight buzz that I never could have done completely sober. It helps take the edge off the fear, and it helps you stay loose and keeps you from sapping all your strength from tensing too much. Every advantage helps when you’re pressing your limits.

Climbing while excessively drunk is of course a terrible idea.

Thoughts on Season 2 of Wheel of Time TV series?

I enjoying it well enough to keep watching. I’ve found it a slight improvement over the first season, but I’ll reserve judgment til it’s finished airing. I don’t mind most of the changes made to the story so far, or at least the ones that have stood out enough from my hazy recollection of the book for me to notice, but a few have been unnecessary and have the characters acting out of character. I find rand and perrin irritating, but the other characters are fine. I agree that it is fun seeing this world brought to life and visualized. That’s been the most enjoyable part of the show for me so far.

Which Dracula movies from Hammer Films are worth watching?

Horror of Dracula, prince of darkness, taste the blood of Dracula, and Dracula has risen from the grave are the best of the bunch. Highly recommend all of them.

Brides of Dracula is kind of bad, but charmingly so. It doesn’t have Christopher Lee, and I don’t remember if Peter Cushing is in it either, and I’m too lazy right now to link over to IMDb to confirm. I think I read somewhere that this one was rushed into production to cash in on the surprise success of horror of Dracula, and it shows.

Legend of the 7 golden vampires is probably my personal favorite, but it’s hard to defend as actually being good. This was a co production with the Shaw brothers studio in Hong Kong, and has some of their roster of stars - if you’ve watched Shaw bros movies from this era you will recognize a few faces - but no Christopher Lee, who had at this point been very vocal about his frustration with declining quality and quit the series. Lots of Kung fu action in this one, choreographed by the always amazing Lau Kar Leung. It that’s not your cup of tea you should skip this one.

Lee wasn’t wrong about the declining quality. Dracula 1972 ad and satanic rites are both pretty skippable. They’re not outright bad, just kind of dull.

It doesn’t have dracula, but I highly recommend another hammer vampire movie: captain kronos, vampire hunter.
