Trump’s proposed ‘land grabs’ mean US now seen as a risk, says Munich security report

This may actually have pretty big consequences for the US, especially if it doesn't cool-down quickly. How long before some EU nation start to build some military ties with Russia and China ? Sure it'll take decades to build an alliance, but a couple of liason officer and a joint exercise, most likely using counter-terrorism or anti-piracy as a pretext, may happen sooner than Trump think.

Is there any non-zero possibility Musk was not doing a Hitler Salute?

Musk isn't someone who failed elementary school, he is the richest man on the world and the US secretary for government efficiency. He definitely knows what's a Nazi salute, and what isn't.

We're not in the context of a movie, a theatre play, a larp, or even a costume party where it would have been from OK to "stupid" but in the context of a political speech.

So it's definitely a nazi salute.

Why are entertainers paid so much?

Reply in thread

This is IMO the most awful stuff in these economy,

You have a couple of actors/singers who earn insane amount of money.

Then you have a large chunk who by mixing teaching, local theatre/bars, and some extra, get from a living wage, to a well-paid job.

And finally you have a majority who struggle.

All of that mostly based on being at the right place at the right time, and having the right friends

No idea on how bad it is,

From my understanding regarding French cops, A big issue is that the ranking at the end of training defines who choose their position first. Guess what happens : The cop who thrived in training will either go to a nice medium town in southern France to get a steady a job without too much stress, or take an interesting job in prestigious unit like crime-brigade (which would kickstart the rest of their carrer), while the one who barely passed end-up in a bad neighbourhood, resulting in high crime/bad neighbourhood end up with the worst cop of the country while the place who don't need much cops get the best ones.

Question de modération?

Delta plane crashes, flips upside down while landing in Toronto from Minneapolis

Reply in thread

I would separate the ones involving major airline, and the one involving private jets/smaller planes. Alaska has the reputation to be a place where people fly without a licence (Or lost their licence due to drunk-flying but kept flying) and winter ops there sounds like a bit more extreme than regular air-lines.

But indeed, planes aren't supposed to do barrel roll on the runaway. not sure what happened, I expect to see some interesting "air-crash investigation " video in the coming years (Yes I am too lazy to read the report by myself)

How is my bedroom being heated?

There is one radiator in the apartment's living room, at the front and down the hall from the bedrooms, and one radiator in the bathroom.

Depending how big is two bedrooms (In an era were there is cramped 40 m^2 3 bedroom, and huge 200 m^2 one bedroom loft) it's more than enough to heat-it.

Why does most religion talk about their GOD being male? Especially Christains and Muslims. Is there a prominent female god that as big as the other two that I am missing?

Especially Christains and Muslims. Is there a prominent female god that as big as the other two

Technically, Christian, Jewish, and Muslim worship the same "God". And have a big corpus of common texts and prophet (at the point the Koran talks a lot about Jesus) their religious differences are mostly about "interpretation" but they have way more similiarities than conservative of either religion like to admit

the trick is that the big block of Abrahamic monotheism is like the major monotheist religion. Then you have various polytheist pantheon having a mother earth figure but I don't know them enough to know how major/female would be amateratsu or patchamama Neo-Pagan also tend to worship a Godess However, it's a kind of made-up underground religion more than a major traditional one.

Volkswagen has overtaken Tesla as Europe's top EV seller

Reply in thread

Tesla understood that Batteries are expensive so let's make a fancy car so customer are OK to pay for the batteries main brand either didn't have an EV or tried to make a cheap electric car, cutting down the autonomy (e.g. the Renault Zoe). Add the whole We're a progressive company, so we give Tesla rather than diesel mercedes to our executive and Tesla was the main player on the niche market for a decade.

However, as electric car stop being a Niche, every brand has now several electrical models, from a affordable urban one_ to a comfortable and fancy one, If you can afford a Mercedes, Tesla is still an option (but then there is Musk personality not helping) but if you ain't rich, you can go to Volkswagen or Renault depending on how broke you are
