Pick your seat, Lemmy
Of course seat 3. That would be the only one capable of a really interesting conversation. Just don't sign anything. 😉

Putin’s Pals Panic That Trump’s Opponent Is No Longer Old, Sick Guy
This line was very telling "Russian state TV’s coverage of Harris—which is a carbon copy of what is playing on Fox News..."
Fox News is basically a Russian state propaganda arm.

That's just politeness, am I right?
I can't imagine what it must be like going through life being afraid of everything all the time and also having a fantasy in which you get to kill someone.

Why Are So Many Americans Choosing to Not Have Children?
What about "I just don't want one." is that not a legitimate line of thought? That was what I based my decision on. I have never understood why the default state was marriage and then have a family. I can tell you that me and my childless wife are family.

Scaramucci calls Trump ‘most un-American presidential nominee in US history’
I am glad he is saying it now but Trump was always a self serving, vindictive, money hungry traitor. And this man helped that win the office the first time.

Brooklyn pastor ‘Bling Bishop’ found guilty of spending $90,000 of his parishioner’s savings on luxury goods
I will never understand the parishioner's mentality, seeing him ask for money every week (probably every day) and then seeing him and his wife wear tons of jewelry and expensive clothing. "They sure look great wearing things I paid for, wonder if I will buy food or pay my rent this week"

Why is Donald Trump obsessed with Tic Tacs?
Because they make his hands look huge.

Took me disappointingly long
How could you write that on a sign and step back and say "Yep, that gets my point across."?

Despite tech-savvy reputation, Gen Z falls behind in keyboard typing skills
Being able to use TikTok on your phone doesn't make you tach savvy. They don't know anything about how it all works. It's a false dichotomy.

If it still requires a Facebook account, no way. I walked away from that site 8 years ago and never missed it once.

What’s the worst piece of technology you’ve ever owned?
The Cuecat: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/CueCat
Came at a time when there weren't barcodes everywhere and QR codes didn't exist yet. Companies had to publish Cuecat specific barcodes, it was much easier to just type in the URL by the time you figured out you could use it at all.

Progress happens with every death
If this type of basic science research interests you, in the US there is a federal agency dedicated to this pursuit; the National Science Foundation (www.nsf.gov)
95% of its annual budget goes out the door in the form of research grants to colleges, small businesses and individuals. Most of the research has no immediate application but has lead to some very exciting discoveries. The biggest in the recent past was that orange donut picture of a black hole that was everywhere. Amazon plans to give Alexa an AI overhaul — and a monthly subscription price
With Sonos shitting the bed with its app update and now the prospect of Alexa being destroyed by fees and AI, my smart home infrastructure is falling apart. So disappointing.

Anon manages the impossible
At one of the places I worked as a manager I oversaw a staff of in-house techs that made desk-side calls when things needed done. After many complaints, I had to have a talk with one of my staff because he smelled and that I couldn't have him come back to the office until he cleaned up. After that I had weekly check ins with him until the new hygiene regimen became routine.
That was one of the hardest conversations I have ever had and the look on his face killed me.

I have worked in the same office for 22 years, no one knows my birthday, what my hobbies are or where I live other than "downtown". There is work me and then the real me and never the twain shall meet.

Back in the mid 90s, when I was a very low income earner and filing the 1040EZ, I could call an IRS phone automation and input my SSN and the relevant numbers and be done in minutes. Did that go away with the internet? Seems like they were on the ball technically then.

A Pregnant Teenager Died After Trying to Get Care in Three Visits to Texas Emergency Rooms
I have a suspicion that a mother who named their daughter Heaven backwards might have agreed with the Republicans up until the time it affected her daughter.
