Republicans never argue in good faith, and bending over backwards to give them what they want just shows them they can demand even worse terms next time.

We laugh but this is not uncommon. I remember reading manpower contributions to the war in Afghanistan back in ‘17 and there were two Estonians and four Icelanders on the list. Hilarious when put next to the 10s of thousands of Americans.

Worst part about Lemmy being a tech heavy space is that so many users spout shit like “They’re not banning it, just deplatforming it” like yes, dipshit, that’s effectively a ban for something like 99% of people. You think 100,000,000 people are gonna fucking sideload the app? Love this place but it can be a bubble sometimes.

just thinking logistically, I imagine that happened a lot. Anyway I expect a decent number of his calls were made by aides and he just took the phone after they got through to the right person.

“Temporary” disk formatting UI from 1994 still lives on in Windows 11
Always a hoot when you click through Windows 11 settings and get taken to menus from 8, 7, I think there’s still a few vista menus hidden in there.

Yeah, I’d quit too. I mean, aren’t they just going to be drowning each other out at that point?

Well generally everyone on joint bases like that reports to the base commander. There’s always a clear chain of command that transcends nations when it comes to NATO operations.
Also, I expect that most small detachments like that are just technical experts, not just straight infantry or anything lol

Wait? Normal people are constantly buying an extra stick of ram because their browsers slow down too much.
We may not realize it’s a problem because the tech sphere (and especially the pc gaming sphere) is famous for overbuying. I used to frequent buildapc over on that other site and there are daily posts of people asking if their RTX 3060, 10th gen i5, and 16gb of ram is good enough for basic gaming and getting told no “actually you need at least a 4070, 13th gen i9, and 32gb of ram just to be low end!”
Hell, I used to be a frequent commenter on lowendgaming and would constantly have to butt heads with gamers who believed that a 4060 ti was low end.
It’s an unhealthy mindset that a lot of pc powerusers have that makes it impossible for them to engage reasonably with articles like this because they simply cannot wrap their heads what is actually normal in the world of pc users. /endrant

Venice becomes first city in the world to charge day trippers a tourist fee to enter

Having visited in 2019, it was incredibly clean. They charged just a standard transient occupancy tax of I wanna say a few euros a day. But that’s multiplied by 24 million annual visitors staying for multiple nights each. I need to read this article when I get home and see what the new funds are earmarked for, because I remember being happy with everything from cleanliness to safety to transit while I was there.

My Bach degree was in history, and I often wrote off the importance of the “critical thinking” skills we learned in that program.
Boy was I wrong, I know too many people who need nothing more than an unsourced headline to fully convince them of something ludacris.

The “surprise” is because he’s wanted, and is being actively hunted by the Spanish police.

AMD FSR 3 loses out to DLSS once again, this time in The Last of Us
“Program designed to accommodate all hardware runs less efficiently than program designed specifically for integration with a tiny selection of hardware”
More at 11!
I mean, not that FSR is perfect, but of course it can’t keep up with DLSS. These articles always feel like a waste of bytes.
