installing different distro on separate drive

I am running mint on my main pc. I want to create an external drive with a different Linux OS, Nobara, but want to know if there's any chance it will affect my mint install. I normally remove all the drives in my system except the one I'm installing a new OS to, but that's less feasible with my desktop as I have several NVME drives behind my GPU. Can I leave all my drives connected, plug in a seperate SSD through USB, boot into Nobara live and install on that drive without it affecting my mint install? Also, if I do that will it put the EFI file on the seperate SSD?

issues with receiving links and group messages on third party messenger

I have an S23 thats on the latest update. I have been using a third party texting app called Textra, for years now with no issues. Just last week, some of my friends have been trying to send me links but they just don't go through anymore. It can be any link, Google maps, youtube, Amazon link etc. I also found out that my friends started a group chat with me, but I never received any of the messages. My friends are mostly iphone but some use android also. I found out that if I enable Google messages as my default, everything works fine. And after I enabled Google Messages as my default, the group chats came through in Textra, but the address was an email address

d4vtcnzrhezdkmrrhe4dqh2gifbucqkcgjas2n2giq4s2nbtgmzc2obvizcc2rjqimzumqkggrcukmkf@rcs.google.com

Is this an issue between RCS and SMS? Am I forced to use Google Messages now? I've uninstalled and reinstalled Textra and I installed a different third party messenger and no change.

Recommendations for 2 leg hi hat pedal

I am getting fed up with trying to use my 3 leg hi hat stand with my double bass. I don't play in a band or professionally, just for fun, so I don't need anything high end. I've been looking at the Tama HH315D Speed Cobra 310, but thought I'd see what other ppl are using. From the reviews I've read on different pedals, the main issue is stability, as they tend to wobble more. The DWs seem to be the best but they are more than I want to spend.

Issues with android auto

Hi everyone, I recently purchased a new car (24 mazda cx5) that supports android auto. I've never had this feature before and so I'm new to it, but so far it's been working really well. I am having an issue with voice commands, specifically for calling and texting. Voice commands work for changing music or playing something else from my playlist, but when I say "call mom" for example, it pops up what I said on screen but then nothing happens. I have tried multiple times with different ppl and I have tried sending texts. It will register what I am saying but then it just goes back to Google maps. I know calling works through the car tho, because I have recieved calls and if I use the touch screen to access my contacts, I can make call that way. It will also notify me when I recieve a text message. And I know I have service when I have tried to make calls. I tried searching online but didn't have much luck. Thanks!

CVT lifespan

Hi everyone,

I have a 2012 Nissan versa which uses a CVT. I am close to hitting 100k miles and just had my transmission serviced. I'm not having any problems with the transmission, but just wanted to do routine maintenance on my car. When I was at the shop, the guy kept telling me how unreliable CVTs are and I'm lucky I got 100k miles out of it. He also made it sound like it could totally fail at any point in the near future. So I'm just curious how long do CVTs last? He said they typically fail around 70k miles. If they truly don't last much longer than 100k miles then maybe I should look into getting a new car while mine is still working. I tried looking it up online but I don't trust the AI content.

Thanks!

Advice on new Ekit to buy.

Right now guitar center is having a sale on 2 kits ive been interested in. The Roland Vad 307 and the TD - 27kv2. My personal preference is the VAD kit, but I've read reviews that the 27kv2 has better gear. I don't play in a band or professionally, drumming is just my hobby so I don't need top of the line gear. I was hoping I could get some feedback from owners of these kits to see which one would be better. Both of these kits are pricey for me so I want something that will last a long time and I won't grow out of it in a few years. My experience level is only intermediate. One thing I do want is a good bass pad for double bass. The TD looks smaller than the vad Thanks!

EDIT: I ended up buying the TD 27 bundled with the KD 180 kick drum from edrumcenter. This kit is amazing! It feels so much like playing a real acoustic kit. I still can't get over the actual hi hat controls and the snare drum that's so sensitive and responsive. The module is also really awesome, so much customization and the stock sounds are actually pretty good. One thing that's kind of lame is it doesn't have WiFi and the only means to update the firmware is to use an SDcard. Overall, I recommend this kit to anyone who's looking to upgrade.

Elden ring night reign single player

I have been wanting to play this game since it was announced. However, I prefer single player games. I know this game is designed for 3 players, but I read that they were going to add 2 player and maybe single player support. have they made it any better for us loners? I don't really want to play with randoms either.

EDIT: thanks the input everyone! Looks like I'll be picking up the game at some point since they are balancing the game for different players.

New OS for galaxy note 8

Hi everyone,

I have an old galaxy note 8 that I would like to flash and get a Linux based OS on it. I recently put lineage OS on my galaxy tab s6 and it's working great, but it looks like lineage doesn't support the note 8. I heard about cyanogenMod but it seems like thats discontinued. I just have some games I want to play from the Google play store, so my needs are basic, so just having a simple OS for games that the devs are keeping up to date would be great. Thanks!

Mountain bike shoes

Hi everyone, I am a beginner with MTB. I just recently got a polygon T6 and have been loving it. I'm doing research about all the new aspects with MTB and quickly finding out how pricey this hobby can be. My boss recommended that I get specific shoes made for MTB. I did a quick search to find that they are really expensive. My question is: are these necessary? Or can I find a good pair of skate shoes for a cheaper price? I don't do hardcore riding yet and only go a few hours a week.

EDIT: thanks everyone for the responses. I will keep shoes on my to buy list, but I will wait a little until I find a good deal.

Issues with hoyoplay launcher

I have been using the hoyoplay launcher for a long time with no issues. I installed it through steam and it ran perfectly until they released the latest update for the launcher. I updated the launcher and now it won't launch through steam, lutris or heroic. In steam, the launcher will popup for a split second then close. In lutris and Heroic launcher it will launch to a black screen. I found that other ppl are having the same issue and some said that I need to install web view 2 through bottles. I installed web view 2 through bottles, I launched hoyoplay launcher in bottles, and finally it works.... Or so I thought. The launcher works properly in bottles, I was able to link my games but when I click start game the launcher will close for a second, then pop back up. It doesn't actually launch the game. I even verified the game files through the launcher but that didn't work. Not sure what to do at this point. I also tried just running the game exe itself but it says it needs the launcher to play..

Other things I've tried is using a variety of different runners in the different launchers - wine, proton etc. I even booted up my windows to go USB drive, installed the launcher, then transferred the files to my Linux PC and no luck

EDIT: I got Genshin Impact to work. The launcher still doesn't work in steam, but I found the right exe that will launch Genshin without the launcher. Go to the install folder "Genshin Impact" then go to the folder "Genshin Impact Game." Launch the Genshinimpact.exe in which ever launcher. It works in steam with proton experimental. So my solution right now is to use bottles to update/install the games then just launch the individual game exe in steam. This works for Genshin and ZZZ. I'm sure it will work for the other games.

Linux Bluetooth adapters

I need a Bluetooth adapter for my laptop that has Linux mint on it. I just need it to connect a BT speaker for watching YouTube and netflix. The adapters I looked at on amazon all say they aren't compatible with Linux. I was hoping I could get some recommendations that work with Linux. And preferably one that doesn't require drivers from some sketchy site, Thanks!

EDIT: thanks everyone for the recommendations!

Issues with installing large fitgirl repacks

Hi fellow Linux users, I just built a new rig and am issues with installing large fitgirl repacks. My specs Ryzen 7 7800x3d Rtx 4070 ti super 32 gigs of ddr5 RAM Linux mint 22.1 Lutris with wine version: ge-8-26x86_64 I am trying to install FFXVI on an SSD with plenty of free space. I can get to about 90% of unpacking before I get an error saying I ran out of memory. I made sure to check the box in the installer to limit RAM use, I also had my system monitor up to monitor it and my RAM usage never got to 100%. Looking at other posts, it seems like using a windows VM is my best option because I have had missing files on other games that successfully installed. Just wanted to see if there's another solution or if I should just use a windows VM. Thanks!

EDIT: I forgot that a while back I made an external USB windows to go drive. I used that to unpack the game then move it over to my Linux drive. That worked with no issues unpacking
