A study on tech literacy

Linux users are inherently more tech savvy because there are no limits. On the contrary, there is documentation and free knowledge aplenty. Windows and especially Mac hide and obfuscate everything happening under the hood and you are vaguely warned away from doing anything not specifically blessed by the corporation. That's why those users are less tech savvy on average.

Vendor lock in is the reason I went to a fully open source workflow like fifteen years ago. When you rely on these companies for tools, they own your work. They can jack up prices, change TOS whenever they want, paywall features, train AIs on your work, and jerk you around on a chain at their whim. I don't mind a little jank or having to do some workarounds for a certain result to keep my freedom. And also, when a new release comes out that fixes an issue ive been having, I feel grateful! In the closed ecosystem you feel entitled and resentful and powerless. It's not worth it.

Winning

One of big hurdles with therapy is finding a therapist that won't gaslight me with capitalist propaganda when I express political or career angst. Being well adjusted to an insane system is not the goal I'm looking for.

When you're stuck with your right-wing dystopian nightmare and your friends aren't

So you've won. Here's how you keep it: first, pass strict laws against publishing misinformation and shut down shitspreaders HARD. Do everything possible to put more money in voter's pockets and remind them constantly of that fact. Compare everything the right says and does to Trump. Do the opposite of whatever the US does. Work to remove any leverage the US has over your countries and help each other out.

Full disclosure: I'm a USian. Our recovery depends on the right failing as hard as possible, here and in your countries. There is an international far right movement at work, don't get comfortable and don't think you are safe. Identify their sources, causes, support structures and propaganda channels and shut them down before they can take root. Good luck and godspeed!

It's about resistance, not violence per we. Choosing the right kind of resistance for the situation is how change is made. Non violent protesting is for raising awareness and building solidarity. Violence is purely for defense and to show when a line has been crossed. Otherwise your movement will just become the next police state regime, if it doesn't get crushed outright. People advocating for violence on social media are either bots or bad faith actors trying to stop the movement. Anyone seriously considering violence against the state sure as shit aren't posting about it on Lemmy.

I'm just trying to come to terms with my trauma, can the world, I don't know, improve with me or something instead of getting worse?

The world's healing progresses much more slowly than the individual's. We have hundreds of years of colonialism and ecological devastation to heal from and that shit won't happen overnight. You are part of the world and your healing makes the world better. Focus on what you can do and do that. Trying to take responsibility for the whole mess will destroy you, it's out of your hands.

Well how about that?

No one is looking to incite a civil war, even if many people on both sides fantasize about it. War is grueling and terrible and we are still too comfortable to risk it. BUT. I think preparing ourselves for the eventuality is wise. Really the best move we could make would be a general strike. It'd be a bloodless deathblow to this stupid stupid situation.
