Germany's far-right AfD suffers series of candidate deaths ahead of local vote

There really is no news story here other than a wild right-wing conspiracy theory.

There are tens of thousands candidates in this election with 17 known deaths among the candidates, 7 of which are AfD candidates. This might seem high at first glance, but since there is no central institution keeping track of this, there might be more deaths for the other parties that are just not known. Also, as others have pointed out, many AfD candidates are older men. One of the dead was 80, two others around 70.

I wish these conspiracy theories weren't just casually echoed in headlines and social media.

Percentages

Having two possible outcomes does not mean it's a 50:50 chance.

"So if I aim the arrow at the 1cm square from 100m away and shoot, I either hit it or I don't. So basically I have a 50% chance of hitting it."

What do zoos do with dead animals?

I think I remember some years ago a zoo fed a dead giraffe to the lions and people went absolutely insane about it. I'm not sure about the details anymore, they might have killed it because there wasn't enough room in the zoo for it? Either way I didn't get it, what do they think the lions are fed any other day? Animals that weren't killed explicitly to become food? Some cows that couldn't bear existence on this world anymore and offered themselves as lion food? Where is the difference?

Look, as much as I dislike Rowling's terf bullshit, I haven't heard of any human trafficking allegations involving her.

#NULL!

Unless they work for Microsoft. Teams has been showing instead of ä for the caller's name in the popup when someone calls for several weeks now. It didn't use to do that before. I don't think they care anymore.

To add to this: If both men and women are allowed to have multiple spouses (which is the only fair way to do it), how do you deal with situations where a husband has multiple wives who has multiple husbands who also have multiple spouses? This sounds like a nightmare from a legal perspective.

I'm not saying I'm against polyamory, do whatever you want, as long as everybody involved is fine with it. It could work legally, if you could get married as a group of n people but then not marry other people individually. But that's not how polygamy works in Quatar or worked for Mormons. There the husband marries several wives individually and the wives have no say in it.

In my opinion over 50 is too old. I don't have a hard cutoff but I think I would place it somewhere around early 40s.

Some of my reasons are very subjective. My best memories of my childhood with my parents are of active stuff – camping trips, exploring rivers, kayaking. My parents are still very active in their late 60s but I can't imagine them doing a lot of the stuff we did back then. At least not in the same way.

Also I hate seeing my parents age. It was fine until their early 60s, they were also still very healthy and energetic in their 50s. But now I am often reminded that our time together is limited. I would have hated to deal with that as a child or teenager.

I know it's very possible for a child to have a happy life with an older parent, possibly happier than many other children. But I personally would hate to have one and think it's a bit selfish to consciously choose it.

Warum bekommen die muslimischen Kinder 30 Türchen, während die armen Deutschen sich mit 24 begnügen müssen? Das ist ja unerhört!!! Da zeigt sich wieder, wo dIe GrÜnEn ihre Prioritäten haben!

German teens denied entry to US for traveling ‘under false pretenses’ and ‘intended to work’: Border Patrol

Reply in thread

Agreed. As a white German woman myself, I can tell you that we are very used to being above any suspicion. I have been waved on in every traffic control and border check I've ever been in.

Also the German passport is one of the strongest in the world, we can basically go wherever we want when travelling. And now suddenly the US of all places is a country we have to be cautious in.

This is of course a very privileged position to be in, but they are teenagers, they probably haven't had to think about that until now.
