Jb should have just kept his mouth shut, maybe made some half assed apology, but that’s about it. Making a big deal about how unacceptable Kage’s comment was is just pandering to the far right. It’s mostly just the far right that is pearl clutching over this.

Comedy is the last bastion of free speech. If you do not like the joke then stop listening, move on, change the channel. Censoring comedy because someone doesn’t like the joke is the only thing that is unacceptable here. Really disappointed in Jabels here.

Jury finds Jennifer Crumbley guilty of manslaughter in son's school shooting

I watched the whole trial. The verdict was definitely just, but her lawyer didn’t do her any favors. At one point, in a moment of frustration, her lawyer exclaimed ‘I’m going to kill myself’, at a trial for a mother of a kid who killed a bunch of kids.

She ‘opened the door’ to a whole bunch of evidence that had previously been ruled inadmissible, including the defendants infidelity and the entire text communications between the defendant and her husband.

She said “I’m sorry” about a thousand times, which I am convinced was an intentional strategy to associate the defense with being sorry.

They weren’t supposed to use the shooters name but she used it three times in her opening statement.

Most of her objections were not valid legal objections, but just argument.

The whole thing was a train wreck, I actually feel bad for her (the attorney not the defendant).

This isn't even being taught in schools

I hate all the fuss about CRT… it’s just history, and the concepts are pretty simple.

If your great grandparents were slaves, practically or literally, then your grandparents were likely very poor. Those grandparents weren’t allowed to get a good education or a good job, which means your parents likely grew up in poverty. This means you are far less likely to have inherited any wealth, and thus the cycle of poverty, drugs, incarceration, etc. continues.

It always gets me that full blown slavery in the US was not very long ago at all, and very little changed for black people during the 100 years between the end of the civil war and the beginning of the civil rights movement.

Of course this is just one facet of CRT, but I just don’t understand why right wing white people are afraid of reality. The first step in addressing an issue is acknowledging the existence of the issue. Is it just white guilt or are they just racists?

TIL that electric toothbrushes are 10–20% more effective than manual toothbrushes at removing dental plaque

I feel like it’s more than that…

When I switched to electric 7 or 8 years ago, I really didn’t like it. It was super uncomfortable and tickled my mouth.

I just powered through it because I was told that I would get used to it.

Indeed I did get used to it and quickly began to feel that I had never actually properly brushed my teeth before going electric.

Part of what helps is the little extra pulse every 30 seconds and auto shut off after two minutes. Really keeps you on track with 30 seconds in each quadrant of your mouth.

Two minutes is a long time so having the timer built into the toothbrush is super helpful.

Only concern to note is that applying too much pressure and/or using the maximum vibration setting can be bad for your gums and cause recession.

Be very gentle with the electric toothbrush so that you do not cause any excessive gum recession.

Once you get used to electric, a conventional toothbrush will seem archaic.

The worst part of retail/food service is the inescapable feeling of dread when you stare down the endless abyss of being stuck in that job day in and day out, forever, until you die. Only by resigning yourself to that fate does one gain the perspective needed to truly sympathize with the working class.

Trump floats idea of three-term presidency at NRA convention

Ok hear me out…

Trump wants to be a dictator, sure. He was a terrible president and it would be a disaster if he was reelected.

Now that you know my position, listen to what he said at the NRA convention. He wasn’t saying ‘hey maybe I’ll serve 3 terms’… what he was saying was ‘if I get elected in 2024 then would that be two terms or three terms? Because we all know I was elected to a second term back in 2020 and so even though Biden is acting president, I am in my second term now, so a win in 2024 is a third term.’

The man is an idiot and rambled incoherently throughout the NRA speech. He reiterated his usual batch of racist xenophobic statements and bragged about his uncle at MIT… he is a one trick pony and there is plenty to poke fun at.

Would he tout the idea of a third term for himself? Sure! Is that what he did in this case, not precisely.

Dutch woman, 29, granted euthanasia approval on grounds of mental suffering

I disagree with her decision for a few reasons but I’ll defend her right to choose.

There are always going to be people who don’t want to be here anymore for whatever reason, and so the government needs to provide a humane way of dealing with these situations.

Like with abortion, access to controlled procedures with trained professionals reduces harm. Restricting access to safe procedures will cause more harm than it prevents.

Definitely sad. Possibly the wrong choice for her, possibly the right choice, but it’s her choice to make despite how I might feel about it.

Imo, JB capitulated to the far right by so staunchly objecting to KG’s comment/joke… it wasn’t necessary for him to make such a big deal about it, legitimizing the outrage which, imo, wasn’t justified.

Have whatever opinion you want, idgaf.

Also, a ‘free speech absolutist’ and ‘only wanting people to agree with you’ are unrelated concepts… to quote you, the fuck are you talking about?

They had some good ideas, but they also had some really bad ideas.

I have always felt that freedom of press was one of the most fundamental aspects of a working democracy. Without a free press, you cannot have proper checks and balances. Unfortunately, while press is still ‘free’, actual unbiased news gets only a small fraction of the viewership. Mainstream ‘news’ is nearly completely opinion driven, and profit is the incentive rather than the dissemination of information. The free press no longer serves its necessary function, there is no accountability, and democracy is at risk.

Thoughts on the VP Debate

Walz did a great job, I am super happy.

I like how Walz chose not to dig into Vance too much, but instead he focused on a return to some sort of a normal functioning government.

Even some republicans are tired of the war between the left and right, and some of those who publicly identify as trump supporters may secretly vote for Harris simply because they do not want to continue to be at odds with their left wing family members.

Some republicans might recall a time when they were the patriotic ones, loving their football, their police, and their country. Now the party of trump is being told that football is woke, that the police are weak, and that the country is a shithole.

I think some of them miss what the Republican party used to be.

Even if it is just 5 percent of trump voters, Walz did a great job sending the message that it’s time we come together as a country and start making progress where it can be made, rather than feeding into the identity politics game of mud slinging.

Vance and his ilk wear their atrocious views on their sleeves, we don’t need to waste any time pointing out how terrible they are, we need to instead focus entirely on what we can accomplish together.

Everyone who is eligible needs to vote this time around, let’s all do our part to make it a landslide.
