CDC ditches 5-day COVID isolation, argues COVID is becoming flu-like
Reply in thread
Except the original COVID was literally killing 1% of the people that caught it. I lost many friends. Nobody I know died of the flu. Especially in the same year.

The name "Jesus" comes from the Greek Iēsous, which is a transliteration of the Hebrew name Yeshua (or sometimes the longer form, Yehoshua), meaning "Yahweh saves."

Still better than anything with autotune.

‘R-tarded’ is a slur, and I’m sick of otherwise “liberal” people going along with the right’s move to renormalize it
Ironically, the term "mental retardation" was introduced by medical and educational professionals as a less derogatory and more objective replacement for older, highly stigmatizing terms like idiot, moron, and imbecile, which themselves were previous medical classifications.

Who ever thought it sounded good this way? I think it's because headphones weren't widely used back then.
Today's music is digitally mixed on laptops and has zero dynamic range or feeling. Then again people listen on Bluetooth now so they are only getting 20% of the music anyways. Makes me very sad

I remember typing in code from a gaming magazine because there was no storage. You turn off your computer and it's gone.
Worst part was when your triple checked everything and it still wouldn't run only to get the corrections in the magazine next month.

They use a "basket of goods and services" to calculate the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which measures the inflation rate in America. This basket includes items in major groups such as food and beverages, housing, transportation, medical care, recreation, education, and communication. It also accounts for taxes and fees directly related to these items but excludes income taxes and investment items.

Why are we training AIs on reddit posts instead of Research Papers? We could be saving the world!
They already do that. You're being a troglodyte.

Office workers - Has anyone here convinced their boss to let them install a Linux distro on their work desktop?
For sure. I worked in IT for a long time. After we switched from the mainframe to os/2 I ran it for a decade on my desktop while the company went to Windows. Then once I couldn't run os/2 anymore due to newer hardware I switched to Linux. Ran it from the late 90s until my retirement 5 years ago.
I had to support it all myself but they let me since I was also the security guy and they realized that Windows sucked.
