Transphobe logic

Reply in thread

They don't think trans women are women. And they don't care if we're at risk, they might even think that's a good thing. Usually they don't actually seem to care about the safety of cis women either, it's just a convenient pretense. And the resulting policies ultimately do hurt both cis and trans women.

Winter lovers

At least winter is comfortable inside. Summers get so warm now that there’s often no escape from the heat. Where I live AC used to be completely unnecessary so rental apartments with AC basically don’t exist.

And as someone with a delayed circadian rhythm I also hate daylight saving time. I don’t want to get up an hour earlier every day. Why do morning people get to force their lifestyle on us?

apparently women specifically, which is kinda strange?

Sports really isn’t that important compared to other issues. You were the one who brought it up.

But this is also a non-issue because trans women are underperfoming in sports and in many cases they actually have disadvantages, e.g. because of testosterone levels that are often lower than those of cis women.

And even if there was an advantage, that’s just how literally all of sports works. Do you want to ban cis women who are tall or have naturally high testosterone? Should Michael Phelps be banned because he has a biological advantage?

Biologically speaking, this debate remains stupid. Also, all females are biological.

It's probably still a lot harder though. You're not just heavier, but also slower which means you'll spend more time fighting gravity. And all the extra fuel you bring for that makes the rocket heavier which means you need even more fuel to launch the fuel. Higher surface gravity likely means a thicker atmosphere too which is a big issue and a more massive body also has a faster orbital velocity. Although in this case the larger diameter might counteract that a bit because higher orbits have slower velocities.

My point is that this would probably still be a lot harder than just building a 50% bigger rocket. If you've ever tried launching from Eve in Kerbal Space Program you know the pain. Although in that case you also have to fly the entire rocket there first which is its own challenge.

What stereotype about LGBTQ+ people would you happily see disappear forever?

This is maybe more of a category of stereotypes rather than a specific one, but I've realised that people often still make very binary assumptions about gender and sexuality.

They think that transition is a linear path and that every trans woman wants to get "the surgery" and then the transition will be "complete". In a lesbian couple one of them needs to "be the man". Or with sexuality, you're either attracted to a certain gender or not and there's no in between.

We use labels to help with communication, but reality is so much more nuanced and interesting!

They have a point

After reading it again a bit more carefully I totally agree with both of you. The post conflates people who are unhappy being single and people who would prefer it.

I think the point she's trying to make is "at least you're allowed to leave now" and I'm sure she didn't intend to invalidate anyone's sadness but it does come across like that a little bit and like no, having basic rights doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't be sad. Someone else having even bigger problems doesn't invalidate your own problems.

In my opinion a better version of this message would be that it's okay to enjoy being single. Because that's something that's still not always accepted by society, especially for women, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with it.

All by myself...

It's hard to get bored when you always have access to the internet. I'm not sure whether that's a good thing. I think I'd be comfortable alone either way but I'd probably go out and do stuff a lot more if I was bored at home.

Absolutely, most people know little to nothing about hormone therapy and it shows.

Fun fact, Ben Shapiro tried to make a documentary about men competing in women’s basketball but they found out that you can’t actually just do that and they were unable to find men who were willing to undergo HRT for it (surprise). Which is incredibly funny because it completely disproves all the stupid shit he and people like him have been saying.

Here’s an article about the film. They tried to make it a comedy instead.

Trans Bathroom Ban Bills Now Expanding To Private Businesses

Reply in thread

The solution has always been single-use/private bathrooms.

These bills are designed to eliminate trans and gender nonconforming people from public life, not to address any actual problems. The solution is just not doing that. Trans people using the bathroom that matches their gender isn’t new and nobody cared before this manufactured outrage. Ultimately this is just about enforcing traditional gender roles.

I still support these types of bathrooms of course, they’re great for privacy and also benefit people who don’t feel comfortable in gendered bathrooms.

Do you enjoy nail art?

I've gotten really good at painting my nails over the past few years and I have some fancy nail polishes I like to use. I especially enjoy magnetic ones, my favourite is probably Deep Space from ILNP! I don't have any recent pictures unfortunately and the older ones don't live up to my current standards 😬

When it comes to actual nail art I'm still a beginner, but I'd like to get better at that too! I bought some brushes a few months ago but I haven't practiced that much with them yet. My first attempt wasn't terrible but definitely not as clean as I would like. And some of the layers I painted on top were a bit too thick. I've also tried to make a gradient with a sponge, I love that look. I'm still having issues with not making a huge mess there, the liquid latex I'm using really doesn't want to cooperate.

Amazing nails by the way! How did you make that pattern? The ring looks pretty unique too, I love it.
