Also hot chocolate tastes 10x+ better when you’ve been out in the cold.
The trick is you have to be out there for at least 20 minutes to acclimate. Otherwise it just hurts a little and then you get hot when you go back inside.

You can only be cozy in the cold weather, plus you can wear a coat if it's cold but you can't wear an anti-coat if it's hot. When I was too young to fully understand seasons I used to have nightmares about it suddenly becoming summer because it's just such an awful time of year
This is a large part of the winter appeal for me. Dressing for winter is easier then for very hot weather. Although I do use a wide brimmed hat for heat now, it's like a tiny free cooler!
I still get panicked about summer, or even the thought of tolerating that hell of a season. Mainly it's because it has been a pain in the ASS to keep my house comfortably cold or to even have and maintain an air conditioner. It's expensive, and if the heat gets over a certain threshold, swamp coolers and air conditioners become ineffective at a certain point. It's legitimately scary. I don't want to boil alive or die of heat stroke. One power outage in the summertime could mean you're completely fucked. I wish more people treated summer and climate change as more of a threat to life.
It’s not hypocrisy to enjoy a cozy blanket and a hot beverage any time of the year. It just turns out that winter is a lot more enjoyable time to enjoy those than summer!
It doesn't rally have anything to do with the winter, so yeah, kinda is. Unless you're outside first, then coming in for that cozy feeling, them why would it matter if it was winter or not?
Does your house not get cold in the winter? We have winter bedding because the bedroom doesn't get above 60F in the winter and below 80F in the summer.
Not really no. We have district heating, plus my computer runs quite often. I have the same cover/bedding year around. That and we have properly isolated houses, since it does get cold outside. It does backfire a bit during summer though. Especially nowadays. Most people install air conditioners now, which was unheard of 20 years ago.
people be like "I love the world!" from the surface of a planet with an atmosphere and in the golden zone of warmth of their star. No. Go outside and let's see
At least winter is comfortable inside. Summers get so warm now that there’s often no escape from the heat. Where I live AC used to be completely unnecessary so rental apartments with AC basically don’t exist.
And as someone with a delayed circadian rhythm I also hate daylight saving time. I don’t want to get up an hour earlier every day. Why do morning people get to force their lifestyle on us?
When my wife and I were living in a basement, I made a fake window out of an old TV I had. High CRI led strips, a lace curtain, and some leveling later and we had a nice light source that made it feel less depressing in our room.
We aren't in a basement anymore, but in winter I put the fake window in the real window around 430ish. It helps with seasonal depression a bit, but I miss actual sunlight every year. Especially now that I have a job that has me inside, away from windows, from before sunrise to after sunset.
I like the night. It's definitely got a certain vibe that I quite enjoy. Daytime can be cool too, but it does suck having the sun getting in your eyes sometimes. Especially if you live somewhere in higher elevation where the sun is more bright. The only thing that sucks about night for me is that all the shops are closed super early nowadays ever since covid :/
It feels that way as someone who has lived in the Midwest my whole life. I'm only comfortable above 60 and can never get warm when I get that no matter how many layers I put on when I'm forced to go outside.
Last week we had a number of days it was in the twenties. I take my dog hiking every morning become breakfast. We go out on mostly unused trails so she can be off leash, because of that I do not see much wildlife. Bit I did see a Bald Eagle trying to catch breakfast this morning.
For me it's partly the cozy socks, partly the fact that people in general aren't out and about as much so it makes the whole world feels less chaotic and overstimulating.
Jokes on you. I love the cold. I unironically enjoy being out in - 30 weather. Yes its cold as fuck but it feels fucking fresh. If theres a bit of sun too. Perfection.
I don't get cold much either. If the temps are subzero, I just heat myself up in my bigass jacket and heavy clothes inside my home with the heater going a little before I leave, and I'll feel comfortable even in subzero temps for hours lol it's not bad at all.
I just got frostbite in my ears yesterday because I was having an absolute blast in -24c weather lol. Once they heal (or fall off idk we'll see, but doctor says they'll probably heal) I'm going to be right back out there again with better headgear. I love the cold, the dark, give me more winter
Yesss I freaking love winter too. I can take walks during the polar vortex and be absolutely fine because of my clothing. I recommend ear muffs. Although, I don't even need ear muffs as I usually have my headset on for music, so it's basically the same thing lol
So the thing is I was ice skating for the first time and I didn't want to brain myself in a crash. I wrapped my head up in a good scarf but I think the helmet prevented proper coverage. I do have a really good hat with ear covering though that I've taken out for several hours walks in -30 weather just didn't fit with the helmet
What’s wrong with loving putting on snuggly warm clothing in winter? Not to mention that I love both warm inside and cold outside in winter.
When I was a child, I loved snow. The adults told me that when I had to start shoveling the walkway and driveway, my love would fade. It did not.
Then I was told that when I learned to drive, I would hate it. First snowstorm after I got my license, I instantly headed out to an empty parking lot to practice donuts. I’ve been caught in sudden storms and watched other cars slide off the road. I still love snow.
Then I was told that when I got a job and had to support a family that I’d hate snow. Yet this has come to pass, and I still squee like a child when snow starts. I long to take walks in it. I dream of sledding, or building snowmen, or throwing snowballs, even in my middle age, even if I can no longer run as I used to.
No, you will never take my love of winter from me. Summer heat, get thee behind me.
I mean the feeling of coziness and warmth inside is a huge part of why winter is so great! I do also actively go hiking, snow-shoeing, skiing, etc in winter and love that too, but that just adds to the beautiful contrast between crisp, fresh winter air and warm cozy indoors.
Same. I don't get cold when wearing the appropriate clothes. This might sound weird and maybe it's just me, but even when I do get cold, the goosebumps and tingles I get almost feel euphoric in a way. I like it. Not to the level of freezing to death obviously. I want winter to last forever. Why does the earth have to be heating up instead of cooling down with climate change... :(
I fucking love me a proper snowy winter. Ideally the temperature should drop below -20 at least a couple times, for that crispy cold-bite feeling. Cross-country skiing, ice skating, winter hiking, or just doing a winter BBQ in the snow, sign me up
Ok. But i just did a 16km walk in negative temp 2 weeks ago for no reason other than to go on a walk. I am a true winter enjoyer. The cold and snow is nice.
I just did this last night! I went on a short little walk while listening to music. I was thinking about how many people would judge me for it, but then I said to myself "who cares what they think I love winter". I'm glad I am not alone! I just wear a heavy jacket and put on a pair of gloves. Didn't feel cold at all. I was surprised.
However, subzero temps are still no joke. What I do in extreme temps is I put on all my heavy winter clothes and sit inside with it all on, as well as a heater going for a short period of time before I leave. When I start getting borderline hot is when I will start heading outside. I do this to be on the safe side, even though feeling hot in all those clothes inside sucks temporarily. It'll help keep you even more warm out there and will keep your blood flowing to your extremities too. Your jacket will be less efficient if you don't already have much warmth to trap under them to begin with, so be careful out there! It takes much longer to warm up even in the most biggest and best jacket if you only put it on after you were cold.
Well, there's a reason humans evolved at the equator. Summer all year round and when you're hungry, you just grab a banana. The rest of life is chilling and banging rocks togehther.

I agree but also the only times I've gone camping that I've really loved and love looking back on were in winter. Something about a snow blanketed forest just can't be touched.

I work outside, and I have to go to work regardless of the weather, even in a blizzard. I fucking hate winter. I’m convinced the only people that like winter are those who get to choose if and when they go outside.
50cm of snow outside. Walking is only option to go anywhere. Even if its a longer walk to take side streets, its a nice walk to have once a year. Going to the beaches in the south next week, and the escape great too, but fresh snow on a quiet walk is an awesome experience.
If you judge by that logic, then you gotta be the type to have no favourite seasons at all.
I mean, according to your logic, if you say you like summer, then you gotta first go outside and get under the hot sun and if you don't like being under the hot sun, then you don't like summer. Same logic applies to other seasons too, huh? Man, your logic is ridiculous IMO
I live in SoCal, the heat is going to get in and cook me regardless in the summer, I can at least fight the cold in the winter. Note the A/C and heater are both off regardless.
Nah. I just enjoyed a walk in 10° weather with no worries at all. Didn't feel cold or shivery at all. Why? I simply wore the right clothing... People should be allowed to enjoy winter anyways. I hate summer and heat, but I'm not going to crap on the people who love it despite the fact you actually can't do anything practical to combat the heat when stepping outside on a 100F day. 10°F here. Only a 45 minute walk but it was glorious.
I took from one of my gloves to play around with some snow, and my hand was quickly cold and stiff, but I put it back on and kept walking. 5 minutes later it was toasty warm. The joys of good clothing and body heat.

There are all kinds of active and passive cooling suits.
If you find an army-looking one, you can be truly tacticool.
They're powered and still aren't nearly as effective as a sweater, let alone a coat.
Shitty take. It's like: People be like: I love summer and then stay inside in the A/C.
Or in a pool. Smh
Gatekeeping people's enjoyment is shitty behavior.
Calling people out for hypocrisy is proper behaviour.

Makes sense, you've gotta be pretty bougie to think a heated blanket is hypocrisy.
Edit: it's currently 2C outside and I just turned the space heater off because it's starting to smell funny.
It's not about the blanket though is it?
For the same reason it isn't "winter" year round inside a freezer.
It's a time of year, with all the changes in weather, climate, and home maintenance that come along with that. Not a temperature.
Loving something through a window isn't hypocrisy.
If you say so. Sounds pretty accurate if you ask me. But then again, i really do like the winter and being outside.
I mean, loving something from the same room (or space) isn't hypocrisy, either.
People can like the same thing, for different reasons. Someone elses mode of enjoyment differing from yours doesn't make them a hypocrite.
Saying they like something that they don't actually like, does.
Yes. But that's not a retort. You're assuming you can tell whether someone is genuine based on how they enjoy the same thing you do.
You're either desperate to get the last word in, or legitimately obtuse.
I could rephrase one more time, but you're clearly either unwilling or incapable of understanding what I'm saying.
I could say the same about you.
people be like "I love the world!" from the surface of a planet with an atmosphere and in the golden zone of warmth of their star. No. Go outside and let's see
I think it's just good natured tomfoolery
A sun nap in 90°F/32°C is the absolute best idk what you’re talking about
Presuming your summer stops at 32, sure. Less fun having 32 be the low overnight.
Found the scandinavian?
In other places, only tourists walk in the sun summertime.
"mad dogs and Englishmen"
But that's about the midday sun in India - waaaay more than 32deg C
I would like to take a nap in the shade on a hot sunny summer day.
I like winter because I can control it, you can always get warmer, it's harder to get colder in summer.
As I like to say, "you can always put more clothes on. You can only take so much off before the cops show up."
Can you make it stop for a bit, like maybe the next 24 hours? We need rain much more than we need snow and ice.
Sorry I can only control the weather locally unfortunately.
Rats.
No no, the snow is good. Work already messaged me to say we'd be closed Monday. Don't make them go back on their word.
At least winter is comfortable inside. Summers get so warm now that there’s often no escape from the heat. Where I live AC used to be completely unnecessary so rental apartments with AC basically don’t exist.

People who don't like winter act like they are freezing to death the second it's below 50F
My least favorite thing about winter isn't the weather. It's how little daylight we get.
When my wife and I were living in a basement, I made a fake window out of an old TV I had. High CRI led strips, a lace curtain, and some leveling later and we had a nice light source that made it feel less depressing in our room.

While winter is far from my favourite season, it has its charms:
Given the choice, I would take spring or autumn however, which has more sunlight and better conditions for biking
I feel you. We had no snow at all during December, but January has been decently white at this point.
It complicates running and biking, but it's definitely pretty.
Oh we had some snow 3 weeks ago but it's currently raining outside so yeah....
You can have all the snow we're getting right now if you'd like! So much snow!
Yeah rather that than the rain that's currently pouring outside
You'll have to come pick up the snow quick, because it's going to turn to sleet mush some time today lol!
Went hiking with temps in the 20s last weekend. Saw some elk. 10/10 would recommend.
Last week we had a number of days it was in the twenties. I take my dog hiking every morning become breakfast. We go out on mostly unused trails so she can be off leash, because of that I do not see much wildlife. Bit I did see a Bald Eagle trying to catch breakfast this morning.

-30, eh? I might consider a jacket.
-20 is when I can wear my thick hoodie without sweating.
Love winter, its just so quiet and peaceful outside, just the sound of the wind and the bitterly fresh air
I just got frostbite in my ears yesterday because I was having an absolute blast in -24c weather lol. Once they heal (or fall off idk we'll see, but doctor says they'll probably heal) I'm going to be right back out there again with better headgear. I love the cold, the dark, give me more winter

I believe you're looking for the words "whipping shitties"
I hate driving in the snow and rain, but it has absolutely nothing to do with the weather.
I imagine having an excuse to never go outside is part of the appeal.
I mean the feeling of coziness and warmth inside is a huge part of why winter is so great! I do also actively go hiking, snow-shoeing, skiing, etc in winter and love that too, but that just adds to the beautiful contrast between crisp, fresh winter air and warm cozy indoors.
Yes I love winter and I love being outside during winter, I imagine I would have a whole other perspective if I couldn't afford to heat my home.
Same. I don't get cold when wearing the appropriate clothes. This might sound weird and maybe it's just me, but even when I do get cold, the goosebumps and tingles I get almost feel euphoric in a way. I like it. Not to the level of freezing to death obviously. Excuse me sir in this household we use celsius
It is -14 and the human body recoils at the fact that that is 34 degrees below room temperature (Or 3.5 temperature steps)
❌ hot girl summer
✅ cold bitch winter
"Liking winter" does not mean "liking the cold".
It's also winter inside your living room.
I just got home from being outside for hockey in 1 degree F weather and I LOVED it. I’m happy outside to about -9. I get so invigorated.
My dad and I have always said "it's been cold enough that I've wished for summer, but never hot enough I wished for winter".
If it goes above 20 C for more than a week or so I definitely start wishing for winter. I'm not built for that shit
I'm the same, but plenty of people around me do wish for winter as soon as the temps go over 20deg C.
Can't relate, it's the exact opposite for me lol
I just got in from shoveling round one.
I'm thankful that it's cold when it snows, I love sledding with the kids.
But now that there was snow and snowmen and snowball fights, can it please be fucking summer now?
Don't threaten me with a good time.
I'm in the ice cream biz, and people tell me all the time: "I CRAVE ice cream in the winter time!"
No you don't.
I eat ice cream year round, the ambient temperature has literally nothing to do with it
If you're referring to the winter layoffs in the ice cream industry, notice how it isn't "the winter complete shutdown of the ice cream industry". While aggregate demand for ice cream does go down, individual demand still varies and sales don't drop to zero.
I know if I offered my daughter a freezie right now, she'd excitedly put down the video game she's playing to have one, despite the fact I could just leave them on the balcony and they'd still be freezies.
I just had ice cream last night while watching snow fall. I'll have some more now that there's even more falling. Try to understand that people aren't all the same and you'll have a better idea how the world works.
This person doesn't know about winter sports, cross-country skiing, all fun winter activities
While I love cozy warm bed, I will in fact be going for a walk in the worst part of the big scary blizzard purely for fun.
Agreed. I love the snow
I agree but also the only times I've gone camping that I've really loved and love looking back on were in winter. Something about a snow blanketed forest just can't be touched.
Not worth it at the end of the day and I'm glad I moved somewhere that almost never snows but still.
I have to work outside and I always have to bite my tongue when office workers go all "I love winter".
I stand by the original statement - I love winter! If some people can't handle it, too bad.
As an adult I loved winter still. I could be outside, do stuff without suffering heart stroke, and I loved running in the snow with my trail running shoes for 13+ miles.
I now live in the southwest and man so I miss winter.
I work outside, and I have to go to work regardless of the weather, even in a blizzard. I fucking hate winter. I’m convinced the only people that like winter are those who get to choose if and when they go outside.

32°F (0°C) feels great =D
10°F here. Only a 45 minute walk but it was glorious.

What's wrong with enjoying winter from the comfort of indoors?
Tbh I love it outside too, at least when its snowy and not wet.
I love winter so much I pollute as much as I can to speed run though global warming and reach the inevitible ice age after.
No. Fuck off. I'm staying in my heated living room and sipping tea.
NO!
There a re people outside...
I went on a hike this weekend in -7F. And last week I had ice cream outside in 13F.
But ⛷️
