How come people are stupid nowadays? Especially on social media

Well if you're mainly on the English speaking web maybe the decline in education since 2013 plays a role.

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/whats-behind-the-decade-long-learning-recession-for-american-students

I'd also imagine tech and specifically internet illiteracy of older generations plays a role.

https://longevity.stanford.edu/older-adults-and-technology-moving-beyond-the-stereotypes/

Not to mention all the bots pretending to be users commenting on things.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/josipamajic/2026/06/04/bots-now-outnumber-humans-online-and-the-internet-was-never-built-for-this/

The icing on the top is that the algorithms on social media probably know that this kind of wrong will keep you engaged enough to research and make posts about this kind of thing and so it sends it your way to keep your attention.

"Linux? Those guys who like to talk about themselves?"

It's because Lemmy is a techy tinkering hub. The same skills and interests needed to be aware of and migrate to Lemmy lend themselves to people migrating to Linux.

Both are free and open source and arguably better than the alternatives of reddit and windows so of course there are a bunch of dorks on here trying to get you to switch.

Both also cut down on how much you can be spied on and manipulated by algorithms so that's a big incentive to convert people too.

Edit: btw you should switch to linux

That totally unbiased source thing is not what I said at all. I said I don't read CIA funded sources. I try not to take governments words about their geopolitical enemies all toy serious because they have motivation to lie. If the CIA is funding it then it's propaganda. I mean while else would they?

You say postulated now but you just asserted that China actually has a bigger prison population. I just asked for evidence.

The wealth gap piece is interesting to me. I've searched around and found a bit on it and how it's rising to levels like the USA. But I didn't find one where they caught up. I'd love to see a non CIA funded one.

Where do you get the idea that a revolution would create something worse than we have now? I've heard it around before but don't revolutions almost always lead to higher standards of living? My biggest concern would be surviving the revolution itself not what comes after. 🤷

This whole crushing it narrative... Are we going to pretend like all working Americans aren't struggling?

Like sure Biden as corpse is better than Trump but he's not more likeable and he isn't doing a good job.

No one Is suggesting you should vote for Trump and his fascist. I'm saying I'm worried Biden won't beat Trump and his fascist in an election because he's not a strong candidate at all. This is the same problem we have with Hillary in 2016
