Trump’s Private Health Troubles Are Revealed; Aides confessed the 80-year-old president was “beginning to seem old” for the first time.

Reply in thread

When I first read "beginning to seem old" I thought "what rock have they been living under?" Then I thought about my dad's slow decline and how striking it was when I realized just how close to death he was. His body had fallen apart over the course of five years, following a major heart attack. He went from a vibrant 80 year old that still did carpentry work and could beat me in arm wrestling to a sallow-faced shadow of the man he was.

I know this is a media piece and I believe the staffers are "shocked" about as much as comatose sloth. I can also see how obvious decline can be missed by those closest to them. Dunno where I was going with this. I'm gonna go think about my dad some. I miss him

D Trump raped his daughter, no doubt in my mind

Somewhere there a video of her showing her childhood room to some sort of show. There's a moment where she looks at her old bed and she gets a thousand yard stare for a few seconds before coming back to the here and now.

The entire family is terrible, including her. What happened to her as a kid is also terrible

Remember, the path to the GOOD Communist Space-Future requires democracy and human rights!

But it's not communist. There are parallels, of course. It is, technically, classless, stateless, and moneyless. But there is still a Central government. There is still private ownership. Picard's family owns land. They're not given land by the community. There's no community control of resources because any resources a person may want are readily available to all.

It is a post-scarcity^1 quasi-socialist^2 utopian^3 representative parliamentary democracy^4.

  1. There is no need for money, bartering, or employment. Replicators and energy are abundant and can fill any physical need.
  2. There is no economy for the collective community to own, but social equity is valued and maintained
  3. There is no poverty, war, exploitation, or abuse of power. All people live in peace, equality, and self-fulfillment
  4. There is a world government that has elected members of parliament, and that government represents the inhabitants of Earth and their interests within the United Federation of Planets, a federal representative republic.

I spent way too much time on this. I'm gonna go play with my trains

Sending love your way. Your situation sucks, and no one should have to endure that kind of trauma. I appreciate that you prioritized your baby's needs over your own, it's never an easy decision, even if it's the right one

What's one highly extolled piece of media that you absolutely cannot stand in any way shape or form.

I can't watch The Office.

My empathy makes me feel super uncomfortable watching people do socially mean or cringe things. I enjoyed most of Parks and Rec, but I didn't like the way they treated Garry, and almost stopped watching because of that running gag.

Oddly enough, I devoured The Bear. It's not high anxiety or intensity that turns me off, it's the banal meanness that some express that I can't stand. The Bear is intense, but the characters feel genuine and honest

The Office
Napoleon Dynamite
Grease
Reservoir Dogs
Big Bang Theory (or any popular laugh-track sitcom post 2000)
(Nevermind, you said highly extolled, not just popular)
Chicago, Rent, and Cats
Harry Potter (even before JKR went full terf, probably just a generational thing, honestly)
Taylor Swift (again, nothing personal, just not my jam)
Sideways, Marriage Story, Whiplash (intense interpersonal drama, particularly dealing with infidelity or power disparity)
