Demands for AI Filter on Steam Grow as Next Fest Is Flooded with AI Slop

Reply in thread

Oh wow another post from a licker who can't consider the various nuances of this topic.

A production team using tools to automate portions of their workload is not the problem. I would argue we should have another term for these "AI" tools so that we can talk about them without the rightful fury we have towards AI as a whole.

Generative AI is a blight. Vibe-coding is a blight. A large number of people who have not drunk the AI enhanced kool-aid can see this clear as day.

And we arnt even talking about the blight data centers and their out of touch tech overlords are bringing to the conversation; its all entangled.

I dont give a shit if a team wants to use a model to help with certain tasks and then review it by hand before PR. That leaves a human in the middle who presumably understands the output based on their prior experience / years of hard earned knowledge. I also dont care if an artist wants to train a model on their own content to help with content creation, that's a cool use case. Or a model trained on royalty fee / public domain..I can see a use case for this but we still need to weigh that against "could I have provided work for a local artist, programmer, etc." Are we disincentivising these passions by taking away the already limited income sources available.

Anyway I forgot the point I was trying to make, Fuck AI (outside of a few morally acceptable use cases)

Epic Games CEO says it’s ‘really irresponsible’ of Steam to make studios disclose AI use | VGC

His argument makes no sense. What he is saying is that game devs will fall behind competition if they have to disclose AI use.. Which correctly implies that customers will not buy products in the AI category.. Which means clients don't want AI snuck into games. This means he would rather sell you games with AI against your consent than be transparent.

The problem he proposes only exists in his universe where AI is not disclosed versus on steam where those companies that use AI are now actually falling behind those that don't.

Build a longer table, not a taller wall

I have a story:

During a rough period of my life I found myself relying on the kindness of others for survival. Immigrants, "foreigners," "illegals," whatever folks want to call them (I call them friends / neighbors) were always 100% ready to feed me, no questions asked.

One experience really touched me. During a time very little was reaching my heart, I walked into a small Brazilian restaurant with about 90 cents. I placed it on the counter and asked what I could get for it. They took the change and said it would be right out. 10 minutes later they had half a chicken, fries, & rice. Easily 20$ worth of food (probably $50 by today's prices). They placed it at the table and said enjoy my meal and asked what kind of soda I wanted.

They saw I was struggling and instead of kicking me down the road they fed me and treated me with dignity.

I ate and cried at that table and here 15 years later I still hold it as one of the first moments that reminded me I was going to be okay.

Can we please, PLEASE for gods sake just all agree that arch is not and will never be a good beginner distro no matter how many times you fork it?

This post is a little cringe. Endeavor OS is a great Arch Experience for those who want a little preconfiguration and a GUI install. I've since moved onto doing it the arch way, but EOS was a great foot in the door and I know for a fact I'm not alone. Ive learned more about Linux in 2 years going from EOS to Arch (and running a proxmox server) than I would have running some "beginner friendly" distro. Really wish folks would stop gatekeeping.

The Mullvad founder gave millions to extremist far right party

Reply in thread

I mean I'm okay expanding that logic here as well for consistency. This is all on a spectrum, one of Mullvad's top employees donates millions to far right politician is on the more extreme end of that spectrum than a tweet that failed to read the room.

Taking your counterpoint even further, if you found out some low level employees at any company used a portion of their paycheck to support far right politics would you boycott? Obviously not, which should show you that you don't believe this should be a binary decision.

To be clear, I feel mullvad crossed the line here, my point was that the proton hate doesn't compare and is overblown.
