What the actual fuck? The US has turned into a parody of itself. It's sad to see.

what is going on with all the system requirements in games?
When game developers noticed the market for GPUs is growing and processing in general are getting more advanced, they started to care less about optimizing their games. That's literally it. It's laziness.
There are still devs that do their best to really optimize their games but most studios, especially AAA ones don't care.

Stack Overflow drops to 1,442 questions in July, down 99% from 2014 peak
Not surprising. Not only is it easier to ask stuff from AI chat bots, the responses on SO can often be so condescending and outright mean that it further drives people to ask questions from the yesmanning LLMs.

Major Publishers Sue Anna’s Archive Over ‘Staggering’ Copyright Infringement, Seek Injunction
AA has managed to stay up for surprisingly long. I hope they will continue to do so. There is a large amount of documents that are hard to find anywhere else there, not to mention all the university books that would cost a a fortune to buy for a poor student...
EDIT: typo.

The hill I will die on: Games are the opposite of fun, and I’d ban them for anyone over 12 | Emily Watkins
This Watkins person sounds like the kind of person who's just so bad at every game she now wants to ruin everyone else's fun. It's a known fact games of all kinds can be good for you in different ways, and having a playful side is often seen as a green flag in most adults too.

Vib Ribbon extremely rare seal error.
When I was a kid, like around 6 years old, we had a game demo disc for PS1 that had a little demo video of this game. I've never seen it irl, but I get a nice little whiplash of nostalgy of everything that disc contained whenever I see it mentioned. Definitely a unique piece of digital history, this game!

Mullvad seems interesting, I might switch to it.
I don't use VPNs in general, but I did give Mullvad a try for a month because my friend had been talking about it. It's simple to use and offers pretty much everything you might want from a VPN. They also take privacy VERY seriously. You can literally pay them in cash, if you want literally no digital footprint from your Mullvad purchase. It's pretty neat.
I'll have to mention though, I'm not a big VPN expert, but my experience was positive. I'm sure you'll get more technical answers from other people.

We already have a pretty good LotR MMORPG. Sure it's dated but works fine imo

Looking for a PC FPS with deep gunplay, where NPC enemies are humans
I'd recommend checking out the Far Cry games, from Far Cry 2 onwards.
Also, while not necessarily exactly the thing you're looking for, the Sniper Ghost Warrior series offers a lot of good stuff. especially SGW3 and later are really fun and have pretty decent gunplay and the games can be played pretty nicely without focusing on the sniper aspect.
And if you feel like doing even more snipering, Sniper Elite gives you some NICE slow-mo X-ray closeups of your bullets destroying your enemies, but the gunplay besides Snipers isn't that fun.
