A source has revealed that the Lord of the Rings MMORPG was cancelled after the New World team was transferred over mere weeks before the layoffs.

I dont understand this, the best they can do is work it as an expense. It doesnt make sense to spend on something to call it a write off. It makes sense to make something a write off if its return looks like it will be less than anticipated or that there is further investment than planned required.
Rumor has it the Kingdom Come: Deliverance devs are doing a Lord of the Rings project, so if that's the case, then they're outsourcing a lot of risk.
Playing KCD as Aragorn or Gimli will be fucking epic.

We already have a pretty good LotR MMORPG. Sure it's dated but works fine imo
Why would they even bother making a second lotr mmo?
I guess I don’t recall if they were planning on nuking the whole gaming studio/arm/division or just keeping enough around to make games for fire tablets.
I actually think this is a good sign. We don't need anymore MMOs. Honestly, who has the time or money for MMOs nowadays.
