Mia Khalifa fired from Playboy for her pro-Hamas posts after the Israel attack

Not all jews are zionists and implying so is antisemitic. It's the same old "dual-loyalty" smear levied against jews for hundreds of years.

Tamimi: 'We will drink your blood; what Hitler did to you was a joke'
Crazy that people here immediately believe its her that posted this when the Jerusalem Post reports it. It's a random account in her name with a widely available picture, it not hers

Betavolt's miniature battery could spell the end of smartphone chargers

Sounds very similar to the old Soviet pacemakers with radioisotope batteries. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, records about them got lost and so a bunch of people have been buried with pretty radioactive stuff in their chest. I don't think we (as developed societies) are going to take that risk for some phone batteries...

I don't think so: Stack Overflow requires much more moderation for the comments and answers to actually stay on topic and be somewhat professional. Especially the "don't just link somewhere, explain the thing" rule might require a lot of moderation.

Rescuers recover more than 260 bodies at music festival attacked by Hamas
Reply in thread
So far the Israeli government under Netanyahu has mostly done things to strengthen Hamas, a more radical and violent (but controlled by the vastly stronger Israeli military, or so they thought) group in power in Gaza was deemed beneficial since it prevents the formation of "reasonable", anti-violent advocates for Palestinian liberation. Didn't really work out that well I guess.

California prison guard confessed to sexual misconduct. He got a year of paid time off and no charges.
Why are there guards of the opposite sex in prisons? Prisons are single-sex so why not staff them similarly? Sure, there are also same-sex predators but the number must be much lower.

Do you think Lemmy is hurt by having too many dead/low-PPM communities?
Yes, I think so but only indirectly. Distinguishing between the "same" community on different instances or rather identifying the more active one is already pretty hard, the only thing one can really go by is the number of users who have joined. The large number of abandoned copycat communities on 3+ servers doesn't make this easier since a lot of these have a bunch of users but are dead.
A technical solution could be some kind of "hotness" score for instances to identify the interesting/active ones.

I disagree, something like Sponsorblock is working quite well already for ads embedded in the video and unless YouTube makes serious sacrifices in UX I don't see how they could prevent this.

You might be correct, they promise just way too much money. If it look too good (and this does, $100 for work thats at most one hour) it's just a scam.

Easier explanation: She didn't post it, it's an obvious fake designed to put her in jail.

The Beehaw project is considering leaving the Fediverse because of some significant challenges

I don't think you can derive anything about "the left" from this. You can't e.g. blame users from hexbear for not wanting to bring the debate to others, in fact that's why many instances defederate from them. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Man, I'm happy I'm not the only one who feels like this. I had such a good time in the chapotraphouse sub and never forgave reddit for banning it. None of the offspring from there could really capture what made this sub special, the hexbear thing certainly can't.

White chocolate is better than dark chocolate and i'm tired of pretending it's not
Reply in thread
IIRC, this "accident" is simply because chocolate producers figured out it's cheaper to make the milk slightly taste like vomit (something the Americans apparently didn't mind too much) than cooling it properly. I think nowadays that wouldn't really fly but back then cheaper chocolate was maybe so desirable that consumers didn't mind the weird taste.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe... Viral memes on fire off the shoulder of Orion... I watched CGI babies dance in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain... Time to die.

That's not what the glassdoor.com reviews say, at least last time I checked a bunch of employees complained about a horrendously out-of-date PHP stack.
