Canada is so furious at the US right now

The problem is that there is a not-insignificant number of people that want the US to annex Canada.

In the US, about 15% of Trump voters would support annexation of Canada, even if Canada didn't want it. That's about 1 in 7.

https://vancouversun.com/news/trump-51st-state-most-americans-have-no-interest-in-canada-annex

The disturbing thing is that about 18% of Canadian Conservatives would support annexation. That's almost 1 in 5. Most of us know five Conservatives, so chances are you know someone who is essentially a traitor. I think Conservative supporters need to be aware that this is the company they keep.

FCC Chair Threatens Jimmy Kimmel Over Charlie Kirk Monologue Comments

Emperor Manicula's tweet.

This is the President of the United States, tweeting about a talk show host. Everything has gone to shit so quickly and thoroughly that sometimes you have to take a step outside of it, back to the before times, to clear your head... and then you are once again returned to the realization that the fucking President is tweeting about talk show hosts.

Man, this guy is a fucking loser.

So it's treason, then?

We could start by enforcing our laws. Foreign interference is everywhere, and we've just ignored it for decades. Eg, the US funds the Frasier Institute and no one makes any comment about this. Half of our media is owned by them. The convoy was subsidized by US funding. I don't believe for a moment that the UCP and/or its members aren't awash in US corporate bribes and cash promises.

Our country is under threat and no one seems to do a damn thing about it. Why doesn't any politician discuss this? Poilievre talks about Chinese interference, where is the concern for this interference by the US, very clearly our enemy??!

The Kids Are Leaning Right: How the Manosphere Is Shaping Voters

The problem is that something is missing and it's being filled by angry reactionaries and right wing grifters who prey on the particular insecurities of young men, specifically insecurities around masculine values.

What's missing is a foundational framework for understanding the male experience as distinct yet coequal to feminist theory. A framework that seeks to promote a balanced, respectful dialogue by articulating unique structures, values, and challenges faced by men, in order to offer a lens through which male identity, struggle, and transformation can be understood on their own terms, while upholding - acknowledging - the progress and insights of feminism.

These men feel like they don't have purpose or identity. They need a framework, but unfortunately efforts to define and build such a framework are often hijacked by extremists that just hate women and minorities. Like we see now.

Trump stuns as he floats nuclear option on midterms: 'They should cancel the election'

Guys, not sure if everyone gets it yet, so for those who need to catch up: There will not be any midterms. At least nothing meaningful, if they're held at all. The right is gaslighting and the left is in denial. The right don't want elections...they can only reduce their power.

David Frum said it best: “If conservatives become convinced that they cannot win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. They will reject democracy.”. He's right, and he would know.

75% of Americans oppose US attempting to take control of Greenland, CNN poll finds

Jesus Christ I had some hints that Republicans would be coming to their senses, but fucking 50/50?!? These people are fucking lost, too far gone. They are beyond normal legal or democratic avenues. This is a violent, fascist authoritarian cult, and they need to be stopped.

If they don't change their minds when their country threatens real hostilities against former allies, then they will not be swayed by anything except force, combined with real, uncompromising economic destruction.

Americans will need a general strike and armed protests at this point.

Canada to cut off electricity to US states: "Need to feel the pain"

Let the southern bastards freeze in the dark...not permanently, just a brief period, followed by an export tax. Cut power once in March, then again throughout the NBA playoffs in April.

At this point we should do this whether or not Trump reverses course. Make it clear there is nothing he can do to avoid it.

I'm sick of this market fuckery back and forth. I'm convinced he's trying to depress the Canadian dollar and the value of Canadian companies and industries, so that oligarchs in the US can buy them up. It's a hostile corporate takeover of our country. Fuck him, we need to go hard - permanent tariffs as long as Trump is in office...and we need legislation to ensure 51% Canadian ownership of strategic resources, as well as no American investment right now. If necessary, we need to nationalize strategic resources and industries.

What we don't need is a fucking tax break for the rich. We're on a war footing right now and our leaders need to accept this. The people have largely accepted it.

Carney's Liberal party wins Canadian election and completes a stunning turnaround fueled by Trump

If you're serious, start looking for companies hiring up here. As I understand it's not easy, even for economic class immigrants, but I work in tech and I work with many immigrants (albeit not usually from the US, but it's a different world now). Mind you - please look carefully into the financial impacts as it is a change from the US. Salaries are lower and taxes generally higher, which may or may not be offset in your context in other ways (healthcare a big one, income tax deductions, etc.) But many people, myself included, prefer Canada regardless of the reduced compensation. It's not always about money.

F-35 exit strategy: Canada could pay about $313M to pull out of jet program, defence documents show

Why bother paying anything? Let it go to court. Threatening annexation should fall under some kind of hostilities clause, national security clause, or force majeure clause. Anyway who's going to collect?

The US government can pay MD Lockheed, they're the ones who threatened annexation.

Edit... Fixed above, not sure why I had MacDonell Douglas on my mind...strange substitution for a company that no longer exists under that name.

Stephen Miller Asserts U.S. Has Right to Take Greenland

Dear Americans,

I know there are some of you that are still good people, but the polls show that over 80% of Republicans and 30% of Independents (edit.. Fixed this) support this President. Overall is about 40%. Fucking two in five. This is fucking insane.

Know this: If you invade Mexico, it will very likely be WW3. If you invade Greenland it most certainly will be. Everyone that I know in Canada is preparing.

If you are a good American, you are at a turning point RIGHT NOW. You may be past the point where protest matters. Maybe a general strike is the next step. And maybe that cherished 2A, which you've paid for in the blood of dead children, needs to be exercised. The point wasn't just to look cool shooting your guns. You know what the purpose of the 2A is, and it's ugly and it's hard.

I'm telling you as a Canadian that if you talk about it and deliberate it, and talk about how people are acting and talk about how people are talking about it, you're wasting precious time. You need to ACT and you need to ACT NOW. I'm sorry, but it has to be you guys. You have friends and support in other countries, but YOU are the ones that need to lead it.

Edit. Looks like I upset some Americans. That's really unfortunate for you. If you think you didn't ask for this, think about how I feel in another country. You have the means to upset things, I do not. Take some responsibility.

Edit 2. To all of the good hearted and suffering Americans who read this, I want to pull back a bit. I know there are good people, I have family and friends in the US. In my defense there is a lot happening very quickly, and the potential for actual, existential impact to me and my family is becoming real enough that I've started a trigger based prep plan and have started reconnecting with my CAF contacts. In the last few days this has ratcheted up to a new level. I'm really fucking angry. I'm angry at everyone. I'm angry that I couldn't give my kids a future in a better world than I had. Yes I'm angry at you but not at you in particular. In fact I want you to have courage and strength because I realize what you face is also an existential threat. I want you to succeed. I need you to succeed. Please look past my anger and realize that you do have people around the world who will rise up and support you, who will fuel the fire. But we can't light it. That's all on you guys.

Recording of Danielle Smith saying she tried to work with American officials to get Pierre elected

This makes me unreasonably angry.

Any assumption of good faith discussions with her or her supporters should be abandoned. In my mind this cements them as outright traitors. We need to kick American oil interests out of our country, immediately. This is what they have wrought. I don't give a dry fuck what Smith, the UCP and all the other Alberta separatists think of this proposal. They should be considered criminals and treated accordingly.

Frankly the Conservatives had better come out strong against this, or they will forever be the party of treason to their country. This is inexcusable. I don't care what you think about policy...if you believe this is okay, you can shut the fuck up about what you think is good for the country because you have no interest in the country itself.

Not really clear where your position is, but I will make my position clear: We all see where right wing populism ends up just by looking south of us. It's a disaster. Copying that in this moment is outright idiocy. Picking the right wing populist who has never been on the right side of an issue and who mimics the exact policy beats of the Republicans is a surefire way to go down the same path. We need to tell the Conservatives to drop their culture war crazies, stop fighting against experts, stop trying to remove rights from people, and focus on real solutions to real problems.

Megathread: Charlie Kirk Shot at Utah Valley University Event

Hey, be respectful. This man really put his neck out for his beliefs. He offered himself as tribute to the 2nd amendment, and we should admire his conviction. The proper way to celebrate would be to honour his wishes and show zero empathy. It's the least we can do for him.

It's a rare man that has the courage to rationalize senseless violence in defense of unrestricted access to deadly weapons, and it is even rarer to literally make that the hill you die on. He showed us all by example how you truly live your creed.

Fuck yeah he did, even wrote a song about it.

This is one reason why we need a Guthrie revival. He bashed Trump's father Fred Trump in a song. We need to bring it back and update it for the son.

Woody started the lyrics for us, but he never recorded it:

I suppose
Old Man Trump knows
Just how much
Racial hate
He stirred up
In the bloodpot of human hearts
When he drawed
That color line
Here at his
Beach Haven family project

Edit to add: whatever the song becomes, it should mention protecting pedophiles.
