Ukrainian drones now spray 4,000° F thermite streams right into Russian trenches
For those also wondering (and I’m quoting a comment on Ars so may stand corrected…):
Isn’t this a violation of the Geneva Conventions?
Only if used to deliberately target infantry. The videoed operations so far seem to have been intended to burn away protective cover (trees/brush), which is a permitted use even if there's a risk of inflicting casualties as a side effect of the application of incendiaries.

In 2019, Microsoft tried a 4-day workweek in Japan. Productivity jumped 40%
But what the employees do with their new found free time?
Develop independence, or even, compete with us? No no can’t have that.

In Norway it is required by law to apply a standardized label to all advertising in which body shape, size, or skin is altered through retouching or other manipulation.
A no bullshit approach well done Norway!
Although it seems strange that altering teeth colour is excluded.

Apple in Talks to Bring Ads to Apple TV+
Content advertising isn’t “on brand” for Apple, so this would be a bold move.

ChatGPT is changing the way we write. Here’s how – and why it’s a problem.
Author: “write me a 4000 word article on why microplastics are bad
ChatGPT: generates 4000 words of text explaining what micro means, what plastic means, and paraphrasing the “controversy” section of the Wikipedia page on microplastics
Reader: “Summarise this article”
GhatGPT: “Microplastics are bad”

Google AI chatbot responds with a threatening message: "Human … Please die."

I was just about to query the context to see if this was in any way a “logical” answer and if so, to what extent the bot was baited as you put it, but yeah that doesn’t look great…

Luigi Mangione charged with killing UnitedHealthcare CEO as an act of terrorism
It’s sad, remember when terrorism meant flying a 747 into a sky scraper?
Nowadays whenever I see it in the headlines I just assume someone pissed off the wrong cop.

They go into a massive Lego box then whenever someone in the office needs a brick they trawl through the box with both hands to find the exact piece they need.

Struggling database company MariaDB could be taken private in $37M deal
Meh, time for another fork.
To those people saying switch to MySQL, they miss the point - MySQL and Maria are basically interchangeable, Maria was made to replace MySQL like for like when oracle took over. It was made by the same guy (et al) and he he named both after his daughters.
When Maria is taken over the same thing will happen. I for one hope that it is named for Widenius’ other child, max.
The king is dead, long live the king! (MaxDB)
