The incredible transformation

Reply in thread

The woman in the top picture giving water to the starving kid actually happened though, she found the abandoned kid in Africa who was called a witch by his village and was on the verge of death so she adopted him from what I remember. You posting about fictional white saviorsin media has nothing to do with her being a human being and saving g that kid's life.

had this convo just yesterday 🤦‍♀️

I am going to admit I enjoyed the series a lot 20 years ago, can't say I've read ger stuff since the series ended and haven't done anything to support her since the whole TERF thing came out and she started showing what sort of person she was. I recently picked up my old books to see if they held up and by god is it filled with bigoted stereotypes, Cho Chang (two last names) for the Chinese girl, Goblins being the obvious stereotype/alehory of Jews from a European who was "open minded" about Jews pre ww2 but still wanted to make sure that they deserved some of the bad shit that happened to them because they're vicious even if unfair wizard laws were passed, the black auror being called Shackelbolt, the wezeleys being very much catholics for being poor with too many kids, the french being snobbish bafoons but classy, the Centaurs being either polytheists or gypsies, the list just goes on and Harry being the hero just gets rid of the head Nazi while leaving the institutions and culture in place, doesn't even think about the slavery aspect except for Dobby, and he and Ron make fun of Hermione for her pushing for their freedom. I guess the reason why people enjoy the series is because the world feels somewhat real and magical because she put her imagination and bigotry into the story and never thought of trying to have the protagonists actually solve a major issue and will let it fester.

Ah so the Irish potato famine, Indian famine caused by the East India company, or Holodomor sort of thing where it is better economically for the eliet to let the locals starve and sell all the food abroad type of thing I see.

Some things were better in the good old days

The enshittification of everything will eventually lead to some small companies making good quality long lasting appliances I hope, they will make a good name for themselves and have easily repairable parts, but since we live in the real world whirlpool or GE will buy them keep the branding and make it more "intelligent" and easily breakable by adding computer parts that aren't needed and plastic parts that will fail and not be able to be repaired or replaced.

The Streaming Audience Is Getting Narrower, Not Bigger — TVREV

There is the biggest elephant in the room of enshitification and the rise of piracy again. Why pay for Netflix when Plex or even better jellyfin are available for free/a one time fee for hosting Plex? Why deal with ads and lower quality video when buying/building a NAS costs about the price of a years worth of the top tier steaming platforms and you can control what's on there not be up to the whims of what the streaming service might have available from other production companies that haven't set up their own streaming service yet? The fact that neither enshitification nor piracy was mentioned is telling.
