Robert Downey Jr. Sets Marvel Return as Doctor Doom in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
RDJ built the house of MCU, but now he has to maintain it as well? The man was in something like 9 movies over 10 years. He did his bit for king and country. But because too much of post-end game had been low quality, gotta bring back ol' reliable.

"Don’t replace the culture war with class war" pleads British columnist
Reply in thread
No, we're not. It's not a coincidence that soon after occupy wallstreet the culture war was cranked up to 11. Gotta give the wealthy and the media credit. They have successfully, and quite easily turned the plebs against each other.

When you finally get to watch Discovery and realize it isn't actually an enormous pile of mugato dung
It's pretty bad. Comparing it to other Trek or not. Writing is atrocious. Much of the acting is bad. Crying Captain crying damn near every episode. Not developing much of the bridge crew over 5 years. Not to mention not remembering their own rules (I remember once they said they couldn't jump while cloaked, and then they did it).
Stamets, Saru, and Georgiou were they only ones that kept me watching.
If others can find joy in it, sounds good to me, but I'll pass thanks.

Feds Say You Don’t Have a Right to Check Out Retro Video Games Like Library Books
Fine. I'll start my own library. With external storage, and ROMS.
Wait I'm already doing that.

Pixel 8a gets more expensive: Colors, prices, memory of the new Google phone
English: https://9to5google.com/2024/03/05/google-pixel-8a-reportedly-getting-another-price-increase/
Once again Google finds a way to ruin a good thing. With a $150 price difference between the 8a and main 8 series, I have absolutely no reason to purchase the 8a. There was a time when the A series was half the price of the main series.

JD Vance opposes military aid, NATO membership for Ukraine. He's now Trump's VP pick
Reply in thread
Vance is a cuck. He was a harsh critic of Trump until he wasn't.
I don't see how Vance gets Trump any extra votes. They appear to attract the same kind of people.
If they win, it gets Vance out of my state. Which is fine (I voted for Tim Ryan).

House Republicans Want to Ban Universal Free School Lunches
Even if there are families that "take advantage" (as in, can afford school lunch themselves), so the hell what. It's just food. Maybe spend a fraction less on the federal defense budget and we could buy them all breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

anyone else agree this episode had no right to be as scary at it was
I don't know if this is a hot take, but I love that episode. Anytime Star Trek took what is essentially an emotion, gave it form, and interacted with it, I found it fascinating.

No tip
A local ice cream shop asked me to tip on the very first screen when I swiped my credit card. You scooped ice cream a couple of times and put it into a bowl. Ridiculous.

Anyone else who used to be on Reddit in the early 2010s remember how it used to be a Wild West?

It was great before the dot com bubble burst. Even obscure fan websites had paid advertising. Even for a while after, is was great and still usable mostly because corporations hadn't yet figured out how to completely monetize the internet.
Message boards and forums were the extent of online engagement. I miss it.

Germany’s first African-born MP to stand down after racist abuse
While I applaud him for wanting to make room for younger politicians, I'm sure the death threats, arson attacks and bullets were greater factors. This world sucks.

Remember when Google Music hadn't been killed yet...?
GPM was my jam. It had simple features that I would later take for granted, like remembering the exact track I left off on, and the number of times I've played a particular track. I only keep YTM because it comes with premium (no ads on YT). The second they separate premium from YTM, I'll drop it.

So quickly forgotten
Reminds me of Sylar from Heros. Man killed a lot of people. Like, a lot. If memory serves, he became a "hero" in the last 10 minutes of the last episode.

sleep paralysis
Reply in thread
This has only happened to me once. I was conscious, my eyes were open, and I was able to move my pinky and ring finger on my left hand. My wife sleeps to my left. I kept clawing at her, trying to scream her name, but only a sound that resembled her name came out. On the other side of the room, was a tall, dark, shadowy figure with faint, white eyes. Just staring at me. Not moving. Eventually I fell asleep and woke up in the morning.
An experience I don't care to repeat.
