He took us out on his boat into the beautiful mangroves with manatees and fish and birds and all kinds of wildlife, and then we hit the mazes of colossal personal mansions that turned out much larger than the mangroves. And as we boated through that maze and they fawned over how pretty the mansions were, they mentioned that decades ago when they were like 20, the land that all of those mansions and roads stood on was more endless mangroves. All the wildlife I'd just been shown was the last gasp of an incredibly vibrant and rare ecosystem actively being raped by the ultra wealthy, and these dense motherfuckers on the boat didn't see an ounce of the horror of it. That moment probably radicalized me more than almost anything.
