If the small business owners are not in the streets with you, they are part of the problem and their businesses are legitimate targets.

Fine in theory, but difficult in practice. I'm sure there were plenty of such people in the French protests, but no sign saying 'please don't attack my business, I'm with you' would have made any difference. The targets have been somewhat indiscriminate. What I'd like to see is a coordinated effort to riot, but I'll concede that this is perhaps an impossible ask. Maybe we just have to accept that there will be collateral damage in these situations, but ultimately it's worth the cost?

I mean, surely a protest needs a cause? And the ones in France started in regards to the failings in the school system, which is a totally valid reason. The situation eventually led to rioting, no doubt partially because of the heavy-handed response from the French police. My point is that it's unfortunate when the riots devolve into looting of small businesses that were never the target of the initial protests; it takes away from what the protestors were trying to say. I'm not saying not to riot, I'm saying target government property.

It sounds like you've taken my post to be referring to the US, but I was specifically referring the news I've seen coming out of France. "people like you are not only part of the US’s problem". My friend, I'm not American. The situation over there is different yes, and the democrats message in the post is pathetic. People in the US should indeed be rioting.

My main point here is that they need to be coordinating and targeting the institutions that matter.

Riots are fine when it's damaging government property or large businesses, but I don't see how it's helpful to society when small businesses are getting their shops smashed and looted. No doubt this is done by a small number of bad actors taking advantage of the situation, but it feels like it takes away from the message of the protests.

I saw the Odyssey the other day and thought it was great. Though it did make me laugh seeing trailers beforehand for Dune part 3 and Spiderman which both feature Zendaya, who also plays Athena in the Odyssey.

I've got nothing against her and Tom Holland, but it does take me out of the narrative a bit when it's the same few actors in every film. I'd love to see more with lesser known actors.
