We've barely managed to make a tiny dent

This is an excellent point. The energy transition is more accurately an energy addition. Some renewables on top of a still-increasing pile of burning fossil fuels.
Same with EVs. More are being sold every year but more ICE cars are being sold, too.
Until the fossil fuel industry actually shrinks, things are hopeless.

As the waters rise, a two-year sentence for throwing soup. That’s the farcical reality of British justice
How dare they damage the frame of an artwork and make the curators have to wipe off soup from the protective plexiglas, while leaving the artwork entirely intact?
How dare they throw easily-removed biodegradable cornstarch-based paint onto Stonehenge? Don't these monsters know Stonehenge is made of such fragile stones?

Egg prices expected to rise more than 40 percent in 2025
Meanwhile in Trudeau's socialist nightmare, where eggs are under kolkhoz supply management, I pay $5.25 USD... for 18 eggs.

There's no way I'd use a grocery app. Paper and pen works well enough.
Now, if my phone had a slide-out physical keyboard like it did back in fucking 2007, I'd consider it. As it is, typing on phones is pain.

Canadians cancelling their American-owned Netflix subscriptions like
Reply in thread
Nice rock you live under.
Trump's been threatening to Anschluss Canada as the 51st state and been planning on tariffs and other fuckery to harm Canada. So a lot of Canadians are cancelling services provided by US-based companies and pirating entertainment instead.

Repairable Bike Tips
Modern bikes being less maintainable is largely on the extreme low-end like Walmart bikes, or extreme high end carbon-fiber nonsense designed for rich weekend warriors.
Best if you find a shop that deals in second-hand bikes and get a cheap one. A bike that has been maintained by such a shop is likely to continue being maintainable. Plus you may not know what kind of bike you like til you ride it for a while so don't spend too much for your first one.

It's still around.
The amendment to USA's constitution that "banned" slavery did so EXCEPT as punishment for a crime.
USA also has astoundingly high incarceration rates per capita. Coincidence?

Sen Jerry Moran (R) begs Trump to not let USAID food rot
Reply in thread
Literally the ideology that made the Irish potato famine. The whole time the famine happened, Ireland was exporting food to England. And the English refused to give aid because it'd reward those pesky lazy overbreeding Irish poors. When they did send aid they refused to send milled corn so that those lazy starving Irish had to WORK for their damn corn gruel!

Eating less meat ‘like taking 8m cars off road’
If eating no meat at all is too hard, from a climate perspective eating no beef will have the biggest impact. Eating no ruminants to be specific, but hardly anyone is eating bison/sheep/goat on the regular.

So Starbucks’ CEO commutes to work by private jet? Let’s not pretend the super-rich care about the planet

The commute itself? Hard to say. But according to the article, a billionaire produces emissions equivalent to a million average people.
There are 3,311 billionaires.
Once they are eliminated, that's the emissions of 3.3 billion people taken care of.
