What from reddit do you hope to never see on lemmy?

I think megathreads are useful for things like an album release or a weekly episode release. It gives a place for conversation to occur without flooding the community with duplicate posts. I think the megathreads you're referring to though are the ones where it's like "New DIY-ers, ask questions here!" I agree that those should stay gone. No one reads them and they aren't helpful.

Canadian schools are experimenting with cellphone bans, but some parents say the devices are lifelines

There's a lot of people here immediately jumping to the "cell phones bad!" conclusion.

Phones are a part of kids lives nowadays. Banning them in schools isn't going to help anyone. How are children supposed to learn to use technology safely and effectively if we just take it away from them instead? I don't want to imply that it is only a teachers job to teach kids about safe technology use, because it isn't, but kids spend 30+ hours a week at school. It is a large portion of their lives and what they learn in the classroom often ends up reflected in their lives outside of school.

I think everyone who jumps to the conclusion to ban cell phones in schools is missing the point. All it does is encourage kids to use their technology in unsupervised spaces instead. It doesn't teach them how to use it safely or effectively, and it doesn't prevent them from participating in cyber bullying. All it does is push issues such as that outside of the school where kids have arguably less resources and support systems to deal with it.

Netflix got rid of the $9.99 basic plan in Canada

I cancelled when they announced they were cracking down on password sharing and I haven't missed it. Every other service, I pay for the amount of screens and I can use that amount simultaneously anywhere. I don't understand why Netflix insists on being so difficult about it. I'm not spending $24/month just so I can get 4K resolution and not allow anyone else to use the 3 other screens included in that plan.

Welcome to Calgary on lemmy.ca

I attempted to post about this on the r/Calgary sub and the mods removed it. They aren't supporting the blackout and they don't want this community shared on Reddit. I'd advise you not to give the Calgary mods access to this community. I think this is a chance to build something better.

How old were you?

I'm not sure if this will help you or not, but gender expression can be whatever you want it to be. How you express yourself in private can be different than how you express yourself in public, or how you express yourself to family can be different than how you express yourself to friends.

Maybe you don't identify with any gender. Maybe you identify with your current gender but there are still some things that don't feel right. Or maybe you identify with something else altogether. Any of these is perfectly okay.

I'd also like to point out that being uncomfortable with certain aspects of your body can be normal, but it depends on the context. For example, feeling uncomfortable because of where your body carries its weight is very different from feeling uncomfortable because it feels like part of your body doesn't represent you accurately.

I think in this situation you'd do well to do a bit of googling. Read various sources about coming out, stories about how people realized and came to terms with their identities, and just information about questioning in general.

In my opinion, everyone should question their gender and self-identity at some point in their lives. For most people, that probably just means going "Am I comfortable being a boy/girl?" and answering it with "yes" and then going on with their lives, but for some people it might lead to deeper exploration.
