Good estate

This has been floating around the internet for some time.

The funny part is that heritage zoning is the reason the addition looks the way it does. The upper floor was inaccessible and stairs needed to be added. Local regulations state that any additions must be visually distinct from the original structure so this monstrosity was the result.

Look up Caldwell Tower in Scotland for more information.

Workplace well-being initiatives don't boost employee mental health

The director of my department just announced a new initiative starting this year for something similar.

Once a month, we now have a two hour meeting where we need to prep and present a five slide PowerPoint to our peers. The slides are focused on project status, work accomplishments, personal development, a life update, and mandatory feedback given to one of our peers in front of the group.

So not only am I forced to share details of my private life to a bunch of people that I hate in a fucking PowerPoint, I have to single someone out with one thing they’re doing well and one thing they can improve.

The Boca Chica test site in Texas is built immediately adjacent to a protected wildlife preserve. This is the site where SpaceX has been working on the Starship launch vehicle.

The second part about failing is extreme hyperbole. SpaceX is the most successful launch company in human history by any reasonable metric. I’d argue Musks distance from the company in recent years has helped.

European Union set to revise cookie law, admits cookie banners are annoying

I saw one that required you to decline every single company that was purchasing marketing data from the site. It was like 300 companies long where you had to click the slider to turn them each off individually.

Sometimes, it’s difficult to discern which setting of the slider is on or off. They use nonstandard colors or don’t explain in text which setting signifies each option.

Apple will let everyone set new default phone and messaging apps with iOS 18.2

Reply in thread

Nowhere in the article does it state Apple is claiming this is “innovation.” In fact, it discusses the EU regulations driving the change and the fact that Apple will roll out globally instead of using a different version of iOS in the EU.

Apple “Fanboys” aren’t as rabid as the internet likes to portray them and Android users aren’t morally superior. It’s a phone. Get over it.

Open source CAD software is basically useless. As someone who has tried every few years to use open source alternatives for personal projects, I always end up paying for an AutoCAD or Fusion 360 license.

My professional background has always been higher end software like Siemens NX, Solidworks, Inventor, & AutoCAD.

LibreCAD is the closest I ever got to something that seemed useful for 2D. I hate FreeCAD, QCAD, BRL-CAD, etc. Many open source projects waste so much time to do simple tasks and buck standard methodologies for their own spin on how they think you should design.
