That's because Apple is being forced to do it in the EU.

Android has had this for more than a decade. Apple introduces it and calls it "innovation" while their fanboys lap it up.
Nowhere in the article does it state Apple is claiming this is “innovation.” In fact, it discusses the EU regulations driving the change and the fact that Apple will roll out globally instead of using a different version of iOS in the EU.
Apple “Fanboys” aren’t as rabid as the internet likes to portray them and Android users aren’t morally superior. It’s a phone. Get over it.
This is the internet. Exaggerations are everywhere. Get over it.
