Are we building an alternative to billionaire platforms or just a quieter version of them?
View original on lemmy.worldBack in the day you could find a forum post explaining exactly how anything worked, grey hat or not? Since then the internet has sanitized that out of existence. Should Lemmy revive that culture?
Lawyers, platform moderation, and SEO have wiped it out. What's left is boring drivel whose only purpose is to sell you a product or a course or avoid a lawsuit. I realize some have moved to private groups and there are still sites if you look hard enough. But is that enough?
Federation feels like the right place to bring that culture back rather than let it die or has that ship sailed?
InsanePeopleFacebook can't be bothered to justify removing a post
I thought lemmy would be different but looks like we just recreated reddit with less people but the same moderation team.

It's a (rage bait AI ?) video of an old lady trying to cross the street through an ongoing riot. And there are some protestors intentionally blocking her way. After this clip, there is a guy explaining how empty inside those people are.

I hear people say things like “if Obama (or anyone left of Republicans) did what Trump did, there would be hell to pay.”
Why isn’t that argument taken more seriously by people on the left as an implicit admission that the left is politically weaker or less effective at wielding power?
If one side “can’t get away with” actions that the other can, doesn’t that suggest a real imbalance rather than moral superiority?
