Reminder: In addition to not being The Onion, this isn't a politics community
Geez you’re not kidding. All the recent posts are politics with regular sounding headlines. I’m gonna start downvoting headlines that don’t fit.

Border Patrol is monitoring US drivers and detaining those with 'suspicious' travel patterns
Federal agents observed that Schott had made an overnight trip from Houston to Carrizo Springs, Texas, and back, court records show. They knew he stayed overnight in a hotel about 80 miles (129 kilometers) from the U.S.-Mexico border. They knew that in the morning Schott met a female colleague there before they drove together to a business meeting.
That’s all it takes to get pulled over and investigated for drug trafficking WTF. This is so wrong. Can’t even drive in your own damn country

Giant otters can defeat crocodiles
Went camping for a night out in the remote Amazon jungle, accompanied by local guides. The next morning we were trekking and heard a strange buzzing and hissing sound. It filled the rainforest and sounded like we stumbled into a witches coven or something. There was loud whooping and whistling, but more than anything - this ominous chorus of sustained droning.
Turned out it was a pack of giant Amazon river otters in the water. These guys get as big as 6 ft. The sound was freaky and they were bearing their fangs at us trying to intimidate, swimming in an agitated manner. No doubt they could have ripped us to shreds if they wanted to. We had higher ground and kept our distance. I managed to take a short video.
After a couple minutes they climbed out of the water and galloped into the jungle. And I mean it when I say galloped. We couldn’t believe how fast they could move on land.
I firmly believe that these are the last animals you would want to come face to face with in all of the Amazon. I would rather face a jaguar than a mob of angry giant river otters.
Short Video (OC): https://files.catbox.moe/phsta3.mov Wish the phone picked up the low end of the droning better.

Do animals feel love and emotion?
They absolutely do! Some animals mate for life. Some mourn when one of their own dies (see whales, elephants). Parrots who are lonely may self-mutilate. Dogs can remember you and get so excited to see you, even after being separated for years. Interspecies friendships exist. It's like... I don't see how people can still think animals DON'T have emotions.
They just don't make faces like humans do. Although interestingly, dogs developed eyebrow muscles that give them more human-like expressions, which therefore strengthens our bond with them.

I don’t have this but I actively keep a list of gift ideas. Specific things, small or big, that my SO has expressed an interest for but hasn’t actually purchased for themselves. So I get -“ohh you remembered!” No I just secretly keep a list lol

San Diego’s highest paid city employees? Cops racking up overtime and earning over $400,000
Cops at my hospital are all in overtime. They bring in inmates for psych holds/psych eval and then supervise them hands-off for the entire hospital stay. Easy money. Then the really entitled ones try to act pushy and basically want us to give the patient shots for unjustified reasons. Just so they can sit and watch movies without being bothered.

Yeah it is interesting. Hopefully it was just due to mod inactivity. At least those other subs are up.

Is she into me? I really just can't tell.
I actually had my partner read this too, and we're in agreement, so you've got both a male and female opinion here lol:
SHE asked for your number, SHE wanted to spend more time with you. Seems awfully convenient that she wasn't able to do her work for whatever reason, and instead was content with just chit chatting. Also – hearts are flirty. Especially at work AND you just met the person.
We think she's interested but you probably didn't do enough during the hang out, and she didn't want to embarrass herself, so she just downplayed it.
Our advice is to just ask her out. She seems more forward, so she probably appreciates confidence. "Hey I had fun talking! We should get dinner some time. Are you available?"

Mass Shootings at Two Homeless Camps After Fox Host Called for Homeless to Be Killed
"That's the way it has to be now. Or, involuntary lethal injection. Yeah. Or something. Just kill ‘em, yeah,” Kilmeade said in response to his co-host suggesting homeless people suffering from mental illness be imprisoned if they do not accept treatment.
Can’t believe this is a real quote WTF

What's the best sandwich in the world?
Mine's the Vietnamese bánh mì. Cucumbers, cilantro, pickled carrots and daikon, jalapeños, mayo spread (similar to Kewpie), paté, and your choice of meat, on a Vietnamese baguette. I prefer traditional cold cuts, char siu (xa xiu), or meatballs (xiu mai). And I always pay for extra paté.👌🏼

Multilingual folks: what are some odd idioms in your language(s)?
Fun question! There's an abundance in Vietnamese. Usually used by parents and/or old folk (I can hear it now...)
Mèo khen mèo dài đuôi — Literal translation "cat praises cat's long tail." A way of expressing narcissism.
Uống nước nhớ nguồn — Literal translation is "drink water, remember roots." So you'd pause, reflect, and remember where you came from.
Gieo gió gặt bão— Literal translation is "sow winds, weather storms." A way of saying "you reap what you sow."
Có công mài sắt có ngày nên kim — Literal translation "Perseverance grinds iron some day into needles." Used like "practice makes perfect."
Trời có mắt — Literal translation "Heaven has eyes." Usually used when someone's wronged, but don't worry - heaven is watching.
Gần mực thì đen, gần đèn thì sáng — Literal translation "near the ink it blackens, near the lamp it lights." You're influenced by those you're around.
Nuôi ong tay áo — Literal translation "raise bees in shirtsleeve." As in "to nurture a snake in one's bosom," kindness will be met by betrayal.
