BlackVue's dashcams broadcast users' live location and footage to public

I still have my DR750-2CH which has no cellular connection (so I should be unaffected), but it's sad to see Blackvue enshittify like this. This dashcam has been pretty good and continues to serve me well.

But once it dies I planned on getting a USB powered one anyway (as Blackvue ones run with a barrel jack) so that I could more easily hook up a power bank in between if I planned to park the car for a while (like a week)

just one more thing

I'm probably not the first to point this out, and it's minor in comparison to everything else that administration is doing, but the wording is so insincere?

His heart goes out to all the Christians who loved Pope Francis, but he's not including himself in that or anyone else that wasn't Christian but still cared about him? A thoughts and prayers tweet would've been less awkward.

Convincing people can be easy

If we're to have a serious conversation on this for a second - my view is that I don't push people towards the lifestyle choices I've picked (veganism, Linux, meditation, etc.) but if it seems the person is already open to something I do, I'm happy to answer their questions in a non judgemental manner and be a resource for them.

I'm truthful in what I say, and I will just as easily tell them the bad things (no Photoshop, learning curve, you may find yourself running commands sometimes) as well as the good things so they can make an informed decision.

I've had one friend move over to Linux Mint on his laptop because he saw I was already using it and realised it's actually doable, and another friend start considering vegetarianism more seriously

I feel that if you constantly tell people how awesome and great Linux is and they're missing out, you just look like you're part of a cult and not a rational person.

What the most memorable moment from any video game?

Portal 2 - The Part Where He Kills You

The player is put into this spike trap by the antagonist (Wheatley), and at this point the chapter text comes up saying "Chapter 9: The Part Where He Kills You", you get an achievement of the same name, and Wheatley then says "Hello! This is the part where I kill you!"

The timing and delivery of it was so perfect.

GTA Vice City - taxi and ambulance driving

I loved the part of VC (and I think other installments have this too) where you jump into either a taxi or ambulance and you can then become an actual driver for them, earning money. Loved that minigame for being such a different thing to all the other missions.

Driv3r - the Bascule Bridge

In one of the maps of Driv3r (kind of a GTA clone), there was a Bascule bridge you could actually toggle, and so I'd usually get a wanted rating, bait as much police and cars onto the bridge (even blocking the roadway with my own car) and then draw the bridge up with all of them on it, and watch how the physics bug out and some officers end up in water (should never happen in normal gameplay) and the cars just all explode in the water.

Oh yep, in Australia we colloquially call it "the pits" as in "Gotta take the car to the pits" but I'd say the more universal term would be checking the vehicle's roadworthiness, or taking it for a roadworthy.

Previously, they had the versioning system 1.MAJOR.MINOR, where Major referred to a feature update, and minor referred to bug fixes or other non-breaking technical changes

The first instance where they broke this was 1.16.2 by adding the Piglin Brute, but this was so minor that hardly anyone really cared, and hey, free feature with a minor update!

Well, now they have update "drops" where the minor version means either what it used to, or it's also a feature update, just not as big as a full update.

From the wiki:

  • 1.20: Trails and Tales Update
  • 1.20.3: Bats and Pots Drop
  • 1.20.5: Armored Paws Drop
  • 1.21: Tricky Trials Update
  • 1.21.2: Bundles of Bravery Drop
  • 1.21.4: The Garden Awakens Drop
  • 1.21.5: Spring to Life Drop
  • 1.21.6: Chase the Skies Drop
  • 1.21.9: Copper Age Drop

Never let a human tragedy go to waste

As an Aussie, absolutely heard about this and was frankly disgusted not only by the comment, but the timing given he had said it some 2-3 hours after it happened.

At that stage, information is still coming to light and proper investigative processes have to be undertaken. I don't believe the shooter's names were even released in full at that point in time.

I maintain that the best thing Australians and the world at large should be doing is coming together and collectively rejecting everything those shooters stood for. Being divided is exactly what they wanted, and unfortunately we Aussies are seeing that in politicians and fellow Australians.

Some incredibly heroic acts of bravery happened that day transcending racial and religious barriers, and we should be remembering and commemorating those people and their actions.

I reject any comments from politicians using this tragedy for brownie points. Due process will continue, the scumbag will surely have the book thrown at him, and we can make an informed decision on what's the next best move to help prevent further tragedies like this from happening.
