Microsoft won't update your Windows 11 PC if it has these apps
So, wait, Mocrosoft is finally giving us a way to fully-disable automatic Windows Updates?

Props to whoever this company is. This is one of the best bits of customer service I've seen in years.

Does you think he humps his leg?
I love that this us the line of attack that's probably going to be effective against Trump. It's also infuriating.

Texas Democrats Help Pass Bill Letting Fetuses Count for the HOV Lane
This isn't just a horrifically-misleading headline, it's straight-up false.
The bill originally was written to directly establish personhood of a fetus, but Democrats got an amendment in that keeps the "pregnant mothers get to use the carpool lane" part, without the language that establishes personhood for a fetus. They literally called the Republicans' bluff on "this bill is about supporting mothers", by making that specific. This caused one Republican to retract his vote, because the amendment "guts the pro-life purpose of the bill".

Adrian Dittmann, the one replying to Musk in this tweet, is apparently Musk's alt account.

What opinions about the tech industry do you feel comfortable expressing here, but not in public/at work?
A very large portion (maybe not quite a majority) of software developers are not very good at their jobs. Just good enough to get by.
And that is entirely okay! Applies to most jobs, honestly. But there is really NO appropriate way to express that to a coworker.
I've seen way too much "just keep trying random things without really knowing what you're doing, and hope you eventually stumble into something that works" attitude from coworkers.

Honestly, I was wondering the same thing.

The wall of fucking spez is finmy, but I find it FAR funnier to see how something that was one of reddit's most popular things ever just a few months ago is NOTICABLY less popular. All of the biggest communities that were represented on the drawing earlier this year are nowhere to be seen. All that's left this time around is just random disconnected drawings and massive flags. The soul is gone.
So yeah, stop fucking spamming the canvas and just let it be empty and soulless. It sends a bigger message.

Selling the illusion of access: Devon Archer testifies about Hunter Biden’s use of his father’s ‘brand’
Archer was also asked if then-Vice President Biden regularly "checked in on his son, who's admitted he's had issues with drugs."
"Every day," Archer replied. But asked whether he had ever heard them discuss the "substance of Hunter Biden's business," he responded, "No."
He asked Archer, "Is it fair to say that Hunter Biden was selling the illusion of access to his father?"
Archer replied, "Yes."
Glad to have confirmation of the nothingburger, I guess.

The US government wants devs to stop using C and C++
If only it were that easy to snap your fingers and magically transform your code base from C to Rust. Spoiler alert: It's not.
How utterly disingenuous. That's not what the CISA recommendation says, at all.

Tech workers react to UPS drivers landing a $170,000 a year package with a mixture of anger and admiration
"This is disappointing, how is possible that a driver makes much more than average Engineer in R&D?"
Because the engineer is being exploited and refuses to unionize.
"To get a base salary of $170k you know you need to work hard as an Engineer, this sucks."
Bitch, UPS workers work harder than I ever did as an electronics engineer.

Newsom floats withholding federal taxes as Trump threatens California
See, when people say Democrats need to start DOING things to push back against Trump, this is what they're talking about.
Is this a foolproof idea? Probably not. Could it backfire? Possibly. Will it really help? If it makes the admin second-guess what it can get away with, yeah, that's helpful. This is the energy we need. Stop playing softball with these fascists.
