Woman ordered to pay compensation over ‘horrific’ transphobic messages

Lyndsey Peebles, 67, pleaded guilty to sending messages of a “grossly offensive, indecent, obscene or menacing character” between 29 September and 20 October last year.

Court papers said the messages concerned the victim’s gender and were sent to cause distress, with the charge aggravated by prejudice relating to transgender identity, as reported by The National.

Bernera groups face financial ruin from legal costs

A second Bernera community organisation is facing financial ruin due to the activities of Claire Kellerman, an American woman who has been involved in multiple altercations with businesses on Lewis, mainly over rights of access for her dog.

As previously revealed by the Gazette, Ms Kellerman’s action was originally directed against Bernera Community Development Trust, a small charity which has nothing to do with the community café which was at the centre of Ms Kellerman’s complaint about her dog not being admitted.

The Development Trust ran up legal costs of over £7000 before Kellerman’s agents admitted in court that the action was directed against the wrong organisation. At that point, it was amended in order to sue Bernera Community Association, which runs the café on a voluntary basis, for £10,000.

The Association, which provides many community services on Bernera, confirmed this week that it faces potential bankruptcy if legal costs continue to mount. Already, normal fund-raising efforts are being diverted into legal fees to contest Ms Kellerman’s action.

Pro-Palestine protesters accused of wrecking Westhill offices of defence firm

Ultra I&C provides communications tech solutions and mission software for military and government forces worldwide.

Ultra I&C’s parent company Booz Allen describes itself as an “advanced technology company” that builds “commercial-grade products and solutions for America’s most critical defence, civil, and national security priorities”.

Footage posted on social media by People Against Genocide – a group that says it is “taking direct action to stop the UK-Israel weapons trade” – appears to show two people inside the damaged building.
