The four houses dads belong to.

It is whatever you buy a battery and charger for first. Then you are unwilling to forfeit that battery to just buy another tool. So you get another tool of the same brand, even if you aren't happy with the previous. Then at that point, you've gone to far. You've got several hundred dollars in batteries you would have to give up just to switch. It is the most blatant example of the sunken cost fallacy.

Ryobi, specifically has entry level tools (a basic drill) that come with a charger and battery for cheaper than you can even buy a battery by itself. When you're young and broke and all you need to do is hang some curtains or something you get it. But really, it is just a seed for your future "house" that you belong to.

Why do some car exhausts drip fluid?

One byproduct of combustion is water vapors. As molecules get rearranged during the combustion process you are using heat to make the gasoline (a HYDROcarbon, i.e. hydrogen and carbon) react with OXYGEN. So some of it comes out with the hydrogen binding with oxygen creating H2O (water, hydrogen and oxygen) , and others are CO or CO2 (Carbon and oxygen) the leaner the mixture the more likely you get the relatively harmless co2 instead of the deadly CO because the more oxygen rich mixture allows for mpre complete combustion with two oxygen molecules to bind to it making co2 instead of just one binding to it making CO.

Anywho, those water vapors condense when the exhaust and engine cool into actually liquid since colder air can't hold as much moisture as the normally hot exhaust. When you start the car that condensed water gets blown to then end of the exhaust and drips out.

I am probably not 100% accurate on the chemistry, I am just a firefighter that likes to also work on cars. I understand how fire works.

No Adblock is a deal breaker.

It is sad, but through the events of the last few years (Reddit, Twitter, politics) companies have realized they can do whatever they want. While they will lose a significant portion of users, the mass majority will stay. The ones that leave are the ones they can't abuse and they don't want them anyway. Profit is better taking advantage of the complacent and losing the activists than the other way around.

Anywho, I will move to Firefox just like I moved to lemmy. Although I'm not sure moving to Firefox actually fixes anything other than giving Google less money. Now I just need to figure out how to have a phone without apple or Google getting a peice.

How the Kids Online Safety Act puts us all at risk

What is with the enshitification of everything this last year? Is it because we didn't actively overthrow the government through the Trump bs? People realize they can actually do whatever they want and 50 ish percent of the country agrees based off of tribalism, 45% just don't give a shit and the last 5% don't really matter? They realized we are all cattle. No matter how mad we get, we have no choice in the system we are in. The fucking boomers/gen xers really set themselves up to be a bunch of selfish twats with no real repercussions.

It's an Oligarchy and a dictatorship under the guise of democracy and freedoms and a majority of people are too busy hating the other 50% of the population yo realize we're getting fucked and manipulated.

obesity

It's quite literally the medical term.... i... I am an obese man, I am an obese man mostly of my own doing, their might be some psychological or socioeconomic reasons, but it's mostly the fact that food is good, exercise sucks, and impulse control. I wasn't born this way, I wasn't treated as nonhuman for something beyond my control, and obese is not used for the sole purpose of being derogatory.

Those two words are very, very different. Even if you are obese because of a thyroid, or injury, or whatever, a doctor can, and will call you obese in your medical reports. And if you can't handle that because you can't handle that slight uncomfortability, no wonder you are still obese.

Biden's performance has been exceptional where it matters: It's the economy

The fuck metric are they using for the economy???? The billionaires wealth increase? The stock market? Because I can't afford my rent or to feed my fucking family. Fuck off with your bullshit.

I don't blame Biden for it, I blame the orange man. But the economy isn't an exclamation point that should be used for the average person. The economy fucking sucks. EVERYONE HAS JOBS!!! .... Yeah.... they have 3 of them... start looking at the purchasing power of that money, not just the dollar amount.

Kids need access to the internet at a super young age these days for school. If you don't have some sort of filter in place when they are in single digits or tweens you are just negligent. The internet has some dark corners.

The Whole Murder Thing, I'm Guessing

God damn, I hate him reguardless. But sometimes you forget how absurd it is. He started and endorsed a riot that stormed the capital with gallows, pressured the vice president not to certify an election that was obviously legit. Then supposedly Pence was afraid to get into a ss car because he knew his safety was in question.

That's fucking insane. It's fucking insane how obvious it is that he is trying to undermine America and its institutions, its government, its "democracy ". He's not even trying to hide it. It's his rallying cry. In the country that his party pretends to love.

And whats even more insane is here we are, in a situation where we are worried about half the country voluntarily wanting it to happen.

I am as apathetic as they come about our broken system. I want the whole thing to burn down and rebuild, but not by handing the keys over to a tyrant. There is no rebuilding after that. Not in my lifetime.

Solar project to destroy thousands of Joshua trees in the Mojave Desert

Chopping down Joshua trees is a bit absurd. I live in the mohave desert, there are PLENTY of barren areas to do it, you almost have to be looking for the ancient Joshua trees to decide to do that. And as far as I know they are protected in most places, especially the California side.

But I will say the article seems a bit ragebaity. "To power wealthy people's homes". Unless they are super isolated somehow, that power is going into the grid, just like every other means of electricity production. The dude that wrote the article will be using it to charge his laptop when it's done, just like the rest of us.

Why is Kamala Harris being held at such a higher standard than Trump this election?

You must be young. Because Republicans will vote for a criminal before they vote for "communism". Because the Republicans attempt to destroy the educational system to keep people dumb enough to vote for them has worked. Because dispite the corporate media pandering and acting like they want Harris Because that's what their viewers want, their billionaire owners don't. They want the republican led centrist enabled tax breaks on their money. Harris has also brought in the progressives which have zero tolerance for the centrist mindset. She is in a situation where she has to dance a dance of trying to reel in the progressives even though they are going to throw a fit when she panders to the centrists and the corporate overlords.

The system is made and controlled by the billionaires. No hard progressive that doesn't play the game a little is going to get elected... right now. They will destroy anyone that threatens their billions. Everytime she goes a little too hard left they throw a fit.

Welcome to end stage capitalism.
