Why the YouTube Comment AutoMods are Better than Reddit's (they both suck)

SO as most people here have experienced, Reddits "strike" system is as both un nuanced as it is completely unhinged. It's AI is trash, coded by the advertizer partners for complete sanitation of thought, then is unevenly applied across the site. (it would be better to be completely un moderated vs, THAT IMHO)

This is why a YouTube comment restriction is MUCH more fair: It doesn't ban you, it BLOCKS you. Instead of whacking you with a Ban hammer it acts like a bouncer. It says, "hey this comment is a bit questionable, I'm not accepting that." This is a better way to go about it because as long as there's no penalty for edit spamming, it allows you to go through the comment and try to figure out if there's "a better way to say something" or at the very least sus out what the AI seems to think is the issue with it.

And again, to be clear, the AI on YouTube is not much better, often being even MORE strict, but at least you can WORK with it.

If Reddit used that system, I'm sure half of us wouldn't be here right now.

(context: I was replying to a Minecraft youtuber who is very community driven (which is awesome to engage with, BTW, love to see it) and part of my comment was describing the pros and cons of using TNT blocks for mining a particular resource. Take a wild guess what the AI thought I was trying to do. FFS FML -__-' Good news is that after some finagling and getting loosey goosey with the reply/double posting feature, I got the comment posted mostly unchanged. STILL, THOUGH.)

PSA: Remember to wipe all activity from your Reddit account if you were permabanned

Especially if you have an old reddit account.

I have seen too many posts of users complaining about being permanned on their reddit accounts for flimsy reasons. Some of these users have account that are over 10 years old on reddit. If you make the decision to delete your reddit account, do the world a favour by deleting every activity you made on that account. I mean posts, comments, chats, picture uploads - take your time to clean up - 😉. This could take weeks depending on how much data you have amassed with that account, but in the end it is worth it.

If you simply delete your account, reddit holds onto these data. They will sell it, use it to train their AI models, basically using your effort for free after permanently denying you access to their services. Seeing how reddit is trending towards a bot-only outfit, even some moderators are bots, you do not want your data to contribute to that cesspool.

They can fingerprint all they want with data that does not exist. Good luck to them. Please play your part in dealing with the reddit bots/moderators that have found a way to steal your data from under your fingertips without you even knowing.

19 yrs on Reddit, permanently banned.

No warning, not even a "Don't do it again email" - I had a work account, that was logged in on my works laptop, I made a comment critical of Netanyahu, and the Gaza genocide, which got that account banned from /pics. This was months ago, then I made a comment on pics, on my main account. That's it, gone, banned.

I even have another spare account, from 2008, logged in to that, that's banned too. FFS!

No luck on appeals, so I guess no more reddit, ever again. Anyone managed to get around this?

Reddit Absurd Auto Ban

My account has been banned by reddit for a most absurd reason.

First, I recieved warnings text of which said they were auto generated. Since auto generated content is least reliable, I ignored them.

Second, the warnings were themself irrational. Social media always has a share button. If a post is supposed to remain private, either it should be mentioned on top of it or shall be posted in a private community. Posts I shared were on public pages and I did not claim copy right. In fact, details of model and photo studio were explicitly visible.

Now I'm very very disappointed by Reddit. What sort of naive policy is it. I had an account with 10K karma. Had made some original posts with 100s if likes n shares. I want my reddit account back. I don't want to make a new one. I want my original account un-banned. Kindly guide me how may I proceed??

Looks like Reddit will finally do something about their powermod problem and prohibit individuals from moderating more than 5 large subreddits at once.

TL;DR: A leaked Reddit admin policy change will reportedly limit accounts to moderating only one large subreddit (1M+ weekly viewers) and up to five medium-sized subreddits (100k+ weekly viewers). This is seen as a response to past subreddit blackouts over API changes, with some moderators allegedly planning to circumvent the restrictions. Here are some screenshots if you don't want to view the cancerous link:

Honestly. too little too late and for the wrong reasons. They should have done this 6-8 years ago.

Reddit's spam filters are the worst in my opinion. They filtered me yesterday on a 7 day old account, that could previously post without issues. Anyone else has the same problem? I deleted my account

Some subreddits could be paywalled, hints Reddit CEO

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/18383425

Reddit CEO Steve Huffman has hinted that in future some subreddits could be paywalled, as the company seeks to devise new sources of income.

He suggested that the company might experiment with paywalled subreddits as it looks to monetize new features. “I think the existing, altruistic, free version of Reddit will continue to exist and grow and thrive just the way it has,” Huffman said. “But now we will unlock the door for new use cases, new types of subreddits that can be built that may have exclusive content or private areas, things of that nature.”

This is another move likely to anger Redditors. While the platform is a commercial enterprise, its value derives almost entirely from freely offered user content. That means Redditors feel at least some sense of ownership in a community endeavour, so the company needs to tread carefully when it comes to monetization at user expense.
