I feel like someone listening to white noise wouldn't simply replace it with Ed Sheeran if the white noise was not available.

Sunak proposes raising smoking age every year to create 'smoke-free' generation
Everyone here is arguing the benefits of prohibition. I'm just interested to know how much money Rishi (and/or his family members/friends/donors) have invested in vaping and nicotine alternatives.

Ukraine expands conscription, removes medical exemptions for HIV, hepatitis, mental disorders and more
It doesn't feel like a great idea to conscript those with mental health issues heavily impacted by stress.

Teen GTA VI hacker sentenced to life in a secure hospital
The part I don't get that no-one has mentioned is that Rockstar stated in court that it cost them $5million to recover from the attack. What does that even mean? They spent $5mil on lawyers to recover the video footage? They spent that on upgrading security (which arguably should have been in place already if they could be hacked with a fire stick and a landline). Or have they been selling $5mil less of Shark Cards than they were expecting?

Warner Bros. is now erasing games as it plans to delist Adult Swim-published titles
This practice feels like something that should be illegal. Effectively it is destroying art that hundreds or thousands of people worked hard to make, for the sake of fiddling the books of the owning company that commissioned it.
If you "write it off" to be worth zero, it should either become freely available abandonware, or can be claimed as the intellectual property of those that worked on it. Otherwise it is evident that there is some value to be had and therefore tax fraud to claim it has none.

Cyberpunk 2077 quest lead says early access wouldn't work for CDPR the way it did for Larian, and the studio prefers 'to have a banging release where everything is as close to perfection as can be...
I seem to remember Cyberpunk 2077 having a release that was quite far from perfection...

Donald Trump mugshot released after former US president surrenders at Fulton jail over election charges – live
his campaign is already selling t-shirts with the photo on the front and the words “NEVER SURRENDER!” on the back
Didn't he literally surrender in order to have this mugshot taken?
Could be the most ironic hipster shirt ever made.

Stop wearing Vision Pro goggles while driving your Tesla: U.S. transportation officials, Calif. police
So there was a guy in the "viral video" thread yesterday fighting tooth and nail for how harmful the video is even if it's staged, mainly on the premise thats bunch of people would copy and recreate it. They were getting downvoted to oblivion.
Here we are a day later.

GTA 6 Production Reportedly Falling Behind, Rockstar Urges Staff To Return To Office To Avoid Delay
All Rockstar Games ever have been pushed back by months or years. They have all had monolithic levels of crunch. People not working in the office is definitely not to blame. Particularly if they were hired as offside, which the article claims.

Isn't this basically what happened with the Making a Murderer guy? He was due a huge settlement from being wrongfully convicted, so they planted a bunch of evidence to put him back in jail instead.

True. I always read conscription and think "sent to the frontlines", but there's a lot of logistics and support that goes into an army.
