Amends (2018-05-23)

If you're going to go all biblical to make us feel bad then you have to acknowledge how the bible also says all the animals are here for us specifically.

I'm not religious and even I know it says that.

about that ticket we talked about yesterday

You say that until the first time you join a team with multiple projects to accomplish and zero project or program management. It sucks. Badly.

I pine for very excellent PMs I’ve known.

I had a manager once with a powerful knack for hiring great ones. The only problem was that each and every one of them got poached for upper management in the business.

Gen-X here.

I grew up on my boomer parents stories of what polio was like when they were kids, knowing people in iron lungs, and then what it was like when the vaccine was developed and made available.

I adore vaccines and think that anyone who doesn’t is unworthy to continue breathing. I do not and will not apologize for that, because I’m right.

WeightWatchers files for bankruptcy as Americans embrace weight loss drugs

Reply in thread

Yeah fuck off.

I’ve been overweight my entire life, over five decades now, and these drugs are nothing short of a miracle.

In addition to changing how my body processes sugar, it kills any desire I have for any particular food as well as hunger.

They like to say that it “silences food noise in your brain” and that works as a description but it doesn’t convey just how truly profound that is.

You can tell that it works, BTW, by how much they charge for it.

I’m down a little more than 30 pounds in 90 days. Given enough time I will be slim/normal for the first time since the 1970s, and I don’t appreciate chucklefucks calling them a scam.

You know what’s a scam? HFCS. Sugar in everything.

These new drugs though - not a scam. At all.

Supreme Court denies challenges to bans on assault-style weapons and high-capacity magazines

I hope my fellow Democrats are finally beginning to see why disarming ourselves was such a bad fucking idea.

No, I don’t want people to run around randomly murdering each other. These laws haven’t stopped that.

It’s going to be hard to fight fascism when only the fascists are armed.

Then you get the smug assholes posting questions like, “Hey gun owners why aren’t you standing against tyranny for me?” as though I could do shit alone.

Washington cherry growers struggle to find pickers

Americans cannot afford to do these jobs.

That job won’t pay my mortgage, my bills, support my family, or provide health insurance for us.

And even if it did, jobs like that are seasonal so if by some miracle it did provide all I need, it wouldn’t do it year round and golly, would you look at that, my bills don’t take the growing season off.

At one point I knew someone from a small town in Northern California where most people in the town worked for an industry like this - picking, driving, processing the stuff that was grown (I don’t remember what the crop was). The only people who weren’t directly involved provided services to those who were, working government or retail jobs in the town.

When it wasn’t picking season, most of the town was on welfare.

Only one generation knows how to fix tech...

lol. My dad’s a retired engineer and my mom was a computer programmer. Literal actual baby boomers.

I work in IT. Gen-X. Which you forgot because you’re bad.

My daughter just got her degree in Cybersecurity. Millennial.

tl;dr: STFU with this stupid inter-generational tribalism, it’s wrong and stupid.

Fuck You and Your CEO

I was a child when I lost a parent to cancer. It wasn’t until my mid-30s that it occurred to me to wonder whether or not they’d have lived if we’d had health insurance. And this was decades ago. Of and years after that before I thought about what if we’d had universal healthcare.

Fuck all ceos. Also private equity.
