In my experience lemmy was the most suggested alternative on reddit and then tildes, the only time i ever heard abou kbin was the day before the blackout with the subreddit ban and then during it.

I just checked reddark over 8400 subreddits are down, pretty much all of the big ones are closed down, that's crazy! I only had one reddit brain fart today and caught myself before, so I have no idea how things are there, but I do miss all the nature, castles and sculptures pictures from the stuff I followed.

I think it can be initially, because it sounds confusing, but I personally feel fairly confident after poking around consistently after a couple of days, that was the amount of time it took for me with reddit all those years ago as well, I believe. Once you figure out how to get to other federations and look up things there, things just run nicely, as long as you're into the old reddit/old internet forums look. Honestly, I found figuring out cross federations in mastodon is way harder, and they're doing it.

But I don't think it will be on the long run to most people once they acclimatise. I'm using both Jerboa and the browser and when I search for new communities to join or look up what's going on on All neither feels like a confusing alien experience. The only part of it that feels weird about it is that after so many years, I very rarely had a need or a desire to use reddit's all, so feels a bit odd.

Oh, I hope so as well, that sub is absolutely precious. When people talked about nuking their account(which I get it) it was for post like those that I feared for.

I already found my way, commented and subscribed to other instances from beehaw and I wasn't even aware I did it at first, tbh. I don't know if they all connverse seamlessly like that, but hopefully we will be able to keep it nice and civil.

I do agree with you, had no idea people disliked Voyager whe. I first watched it, and I overall enjoyed it very much. Yeah, the show has a bunch of out there episodes, but they tried new things and all great star trek shows have their good share of wacky episodes.

It's not even like it doesn't have good criticism points, Kes character was very mishandled and her relationship with Neelix was terrible, he becomes a 1000% more likable once she's gone, and Chakotay whole botched native American heritage disaster... (Which granted, they tried, they just sucked at finding a specialist)

And Tuvix is one of the topics that guarantees a philosophical discussion in any star trek group I'm in without fail. I pretty firmly hate Tuvix, but that's power.

But then they should be happy we wanted to stay close right? How is a big dead sub better than a private one new people wouldn't even know it exists? Forcing r/piracy open was a very weird decision, I still don't get it.

Well, voat is gone (i think), but Saidit is Right there, mostly empty and waiting for them, hopefully they'll go there and stay there. i actually saw people suggesting saidit to other people last week, so fingers crossed.

I know how you feel, reddit felt different from other sites for me because it had so much info nested in a fairly accessible way, there's so many communities with so much personal lore, discussion and knowledge of such particular things and hobbies.

I'm not sure the direction they're trying to take reddit will manage to keep that vibrant part of the site alive.

Honestly, same. Kes is likable from the get go, she just unfortunately treated as a prop most of the time instead of a character, specially for Neelix. I loved Seven, she became one of my favourites in Voyager.

About Chakotay, I don't know where they could have gone either, he was one of my favourites at first because of the character's potential and he looked hella cool. I don't dislike him, but he's bland, he's honorable I guess.

I love tumblr for lurking, but never really found my footing there for interacting myself, the whole thing of tumblr (and twitter in a way) of having a page and followers and all that always felt a bit intimidating, i guess? I think that's what i like the ost of forums like these or reddit. Just coming up and answering a post on a forum like this feels natural and on tumblr felt so out of pocket for me.

I'm sure that a me problem and i'll figure out , and it'll probably be one those "oh, that looked much harder before" once i do figure it out, i'll just start by talking to myself and see who i find.

Yeah, I only got an actual link to kbin during the blackout here on lemmy, it was surprising to hear they got so many people so fast. It's nice they did, i just don't remember seeing anything about them on the alternatives subreddit or anywhere else.

I had to leave Jerboa as well (at least until they fix the crashing on launch) and I'm liking Thunder (available on fdroid and github they have a iOS version for the interested) with connect as second favourite (available on the playstore, not sure about iOS)

Thunder has one annoyance, they don't really have a profile tab, so you can't see saved posts on the app. And connect's post writing sometime glitches on me.

On top pf being the spcial media I interacted the most, Reddit also used to be my default idle scrolling app, whenever I had time to kill and a phone with Internet on my hand or when I felt like multitasking watching TV. I stopped using it for the blackout and I never really went back.

I snooped a bit through r/modcoord and r/save3rpartyapps to see how thing were going when someone mentioned them a couple of days ago and from there I went on the linked subs to see their alternative protests and vote on the subs I subscribe to, but that's it.

I still miss some subs, but I haven't felt the need to visit them yet, so even if I cave in, I'm no longer a daily user, just a once-twice a month one with a ton of ad blocks.

I had no idea they had this feature. Thank you, I don't think I'll use anything ever again unless I absolutely have to now.
