It is necessary to point out the shit that Trump et al are doing, and to also express concern that traditional methods of change such as voting are at risk and may not work as they should, but do not try to convince others that it’s pointless to even try. At best you come off as someone who has given up on democracy and are advocating for an immediate violent revolt, and at worst you sound like a fascist plant.

*This isn’t to say that a violent revolt might not be necessary in the end, it very well may; but when there’s still a chance to elect more progressive leadership to save this country from fascism, we have to try. Turning to violence should be a last resort, and while we are unfortunately absolutely getting appallingly close to it, this wave of progressive support means we aren’t there quite yet, and there is other work to be done

Ok good. Totally understandable to be skeptical and angry, hell, fucking furious at the situation we find ourselves in. I just wanted to emphasize (not even necessarily to you, but to anyone who might be reading) it’s important not to give up on things like activism and voting while they might still have an effect.

Again this next part isn’t aimed at you but rather at everyone, but there’s a concept I’ve seen here on Lemmy a few times lately that is very appropriate for our current situation called the four boxes of liberty that basically says that there are 4 boxes citizens can use to defend liberty / prevent fascism; the soap box (free speech), ballot box, jury box, and ammo box. It seems like the upcoming elections may be our last opportunity to utilize the soap and ballot boxes, and since the jury box already seems to be almost entirely either corrupted or populated with limp-dick cowards, the ammo box might indeed be just around the corner. Still, we gotta try the soap and ballot while we still can

Yeah I’m sure some, probably most unfortunately, are doubting simply because they’re becoming pariahs, but still, that initial selfish reason could open their eyes to the actual reason that they’re being treated that way. It’s not very likely I realize, but it still feels like the wrong move to bully them for expressing any doubt at this point.

When they’re actively doing fascist shit, absolutely bully the ever-living fuck outta them haha, because you’re right, it does work. But the reaction to any sort of self-reflection they show should be something more like harsh criticism with underlying support rather than straight-up bullying. Because we all know how astoundingly rare it is to find any level of self-reflection whatsoever in these kinds of people, so we need to use opportunities like this to encourage any kind of doubt to grow. Even if it doesn’t lead them entirely to a more progressive point of view (because again I realize that’s not super likely) it could be enough at least to drive them away from MAGAtry, and any way we can fracture fascism is good

I understand this reaction, really. But in cases like this, where people in positions of power are expressing doubt, this sort of reaction pushes them away, possibly further into the direction they were just doubting, and potentially extinguishing the possibility that they could spread those seeds of doubt among their peers and/or be able to actually enact change.

I’m not saying that their doubt alone immediately undoes any harm they’ve already done or grants them any sort of forgiveness or redemption, but by essentially spitting in their face at this junction, you are squandering a chance to educate them of the errors of their ways (or at least to allow someone else the opportunity to do such) and covert a former enemy into an ally

Yeah, this comic really suffers from some poor decisions, most of which you already covered. But I wanted to add that since chameleons are chiefly known for being able to change their colors (though not in the way most people think, but I digress), the poor layout absolutely makes you think that one of the parent chameleons changed to show support while the other didn’t. But it still doesn’t quite work that way because of all the teleporting and position swapping, so it just adds to the overall confusion.

With some layout changes and mirroring as another user already mentioned, this comic would be pretty good
