Airbnb hosts are furious they can no longer make guests do their chores

Reply in thread

It was so much cheaper back in the day. Me and my wife would rent out either a guest suite or a room for a couple nights in new cities. I’m talking like $40/night with fees or a little more but with advantages of a kitchen and a couch vs a hotel suite.

Also we rented one twice to host big parties because neither us nor any of our friends in the city have a house big enough to host and comfortably sleep 15 people. Luckily that’s changing soon as my wife and I finally purchased a place in the city, and look forward to hosting our friends for years to come.

Police Shooting of 1-Year-Old Kohen Wiley ‘Was Justified,’ Mississippi Attorney General Says

Do you know why we’re not pushing that percentage? People need to work. Sometimes two jobs, especially somewhere like Mississippi where the minimum wage is still $7.25. People can’t take a day off. Last time I voted in Mississippi, I was in line for 2 hours, and that was at like 11am because I was lucky to have a desk job that let me work from home and understood the importance of voting. Minimum wage jobs do not get that.

So glad I live in Washington state now where everyone gets their ballot mailed to them 2 weeks in advance. For general elections, we’re about 70-80% turnout.

sorry for the commercial

It crashed all major gaming store fronts for several minutes. No other game this decade has done that, and theoretically it should get harder each day as systems scale to handle more traffic. The fact that it wasn’t just one store or half of them is incredible to me and shows how anticipated this game was.

Unpaid lunch

I’m a salaried software developer. My first job was 8-5 with a lunch break that we had to take. I asked if I could take it at the start or the end of the day and was told, “No.” So my coworkers and I started playing board games 3-4 times a week during our lunch break in one of the offices. Mainly legacy games like Gloomhaven and Pandemic Legacy. The VP loved showing off the board game room to the interviewees to show that we like to have fun there.

I do miss that job sometimes because it was just raw programming. I was programming or writing SQL queries for over 30 hours a week. No AppSec, no lengthy review process, no bullshit (except the pay, which was ok for Mississippi).

Cathy, do the math.

Seattle metro area has the highest minimum wage in the country. The top 5 cities in the US are all in this metro. This is because when the wage increases were passed by city, they were tied to the inflation rate so that increases every year, so no new laws have to be passed year over year to get this increase. No arguing every year for a simple cost of living adjustment.

I go to Shambhala and they do free drug testing. Every LSD I get, I get it tested. The Ehrlich reagent test turns purple for indoline structures and it’s so much easier to get LSD than the other LSD prodrugs that would cause this to be purple, like 1P-LSD, 1V-LSD, or 1B-LSD. Research from both DanceSafe and The Loop show that actual and pure LSD dominates over synthetics at music fests. I’d love to see your sources because I’m intrigued.

Did it really used to be common for guys to go to a bar every night like in Cheers or The Simpsons?

I’m an outlier because I live in a walkable neighborhood in a city. But I have 10 breweries within walking distance around my house. I know the owners by name for 2 of these breweries and the bartenders know me for 4 of them. I think they all know my dog.

I usually go with my wife and/or girlfriend about 2-4 days a week, but it’s still very much a hang out.

We’re also Friday regulars to a semi-close bar every Friday because I won a free beer/week for a year in a $25 raffle!

AI still doesn't work very well, businesses are faking it, and a reckoning is coming

Reply in thread

I code with AI a good bit for a side project since I need to use my work AI and get my stats up to show management that I’m using it. The “impressive” thing is learning new softwares and how to use them quickly in your environment. When setting up my homelab with automatic git pull, it quickly gave me some commands and showed me what to add in my docker container.

Correcting issues is exactly like coding with a high junior dev though. The code bloat is real and I’m going to attempt to use agentic AI to consolidate it in the future. I don’t believe you can really “vibe code” unless you already know how to code though. Stating the exact structures and organization and whatnot is vital for agentic AI programming semi-complex systems.
