What's your favourite historical photo and why?
The terror of war.
Nobody wins in war, and I hate how angry this photo makes me feel.

How about not hard code this in the first place. If they are hell bent on this logic then let each instance admin list the instances they want to use?

Yay! Now we get ads in shared links!
I don't get it. I'm not seeing the same thing, and I can't find any reference of anyone else reporting the same issue online either. Either this isn't an accurate report, or it's some very specific A/B testing. I can't find any options in settings that mention this functionality either.

That's awesome that you've surrounded yourself with people like that - but people that believe this shit do exist and there is enough of them that it's still a huge problem for many people today, just acknowledging it happens and it shouldn't can make a positive change!

Russia just laid out its Ukraine war endgame — here's what Moscow actually wants
Reply in thread
I had to look up what the "empire" is because I'm not familiar with Russian propaganda. It's NATO and Western allies, and apparently they're better at manipulating Ukrainian foreign policy than Russia is, so Russia's only option is to go to war.

Is Kagi search engine worth it?
Reply in thread
Agreed. I pay for Kagi, and find their search better than any other, and struggle when I'm forced to use another search engine temporarily.

Agreed, AWS make pricing deliberately difficult to control.
Check out budget actions, you can set that to stop EC2s on certain thresholds. Not perfects but can help. Also if you can use parameter store instead of secrets manager, you can save a bunch of money there too.

Spotify says its best developers haven't written a line of code since December, thanks to AI
Reply in thread
Depends on what you call vibe coding. AI tools in the hands of experts can be effective, but definitely not fully hands off.

Have you ever met an actual dumb person?
Reply in thread
I guess it depends on how you define stupidity.
Distrusting governments and distrusting vaccines are totally different things. There is vast scientific consensus that vaccines work, if you're antivax you've made a conscious decision to ignore that, which is stupid in my book. Distrusting government advice on vaccines, depending on where you are, may be totally justified.

The data shows that it won't though, that's the point of the article. Those genuine use cases are really uncommon.

When did it become normalized to start passing credit card processing fees to the customer?
There are some decent laws here to stop this getting out of hand and make sure it's reasonable.

Is Kagi search engine worth it?
Reply in thread
I think it's valid to boycott Russian companies, or any companies that supports them. Justifying it to be the best search engine doesn't necessarily make it right. And yet I still have a paid Kagi subscription, but I don't blame people who don't, and think their use of Yandex should be more obvious.

Doubting an experimental vaccine is different to being antivax.
There no ambiguity on vaccines, the science is settled, and anyone who doubts vaccines as a concept because of localised corruption isn't harbouring a healthy amount of caution. I call it stupidity, but others might say brainwashed.

Cloudflare goes again
You're linking to the wrong status page item, the outage was totally unrelated to that maintenance. If you look at cloudflare maintenance history, they do that exact type of maintenance all the time.

Do you tell people you're from America, or from a random state or town and not even mention the country. I've had never, ever had someone from America tell me they're from America or USA when I've asked where they are from. And I've never, ever had anyone from any other country do the same. Which subconsciously reinforces biases, as much as I hate to admit it.
