Don't fuck with Obi-Wan

The more things are added in the continuity, Obi-wan becomes a weirder character.

Episode 5's retcon of Anakin Skywalker turns him into a liar. 6's retcon of Leia makes him into an even greater liar. Maybe he had his reasons to lie that hard, but yeesh.

Then we get to the prequels. He is warned that the senate is led by a sith lord. Pretty much ignores it. Our dude also trains space Hitler despite initial protests on picking up "another pathetic lifeform".

Episode 3: He is given the chance to kill him, can't do it. Yet in episode 5 and 6 Obi is egging Luke on to kill his own father.

With the Obi-wan series we are given even more meat to this with him once more backing out from killing a defenseless Anakin/Vader.

With all that said, Obi remains my favorite. There is some dissonance in the story, but I like to think that we are viewing the history of Star Wars through several accounts, which lends to different perspectives.

Lemmy is a bigger echo chamber than reddit

Very much agreed, though I'm not looking to switch back. Reddit had gradually turned into a homogenous slurry of astroturf and toxic groupthink. Lemmy lacks the critical mass for both of these to become a problem.

I still find Lemmy a better alternative, because at least I can see opinions that differ from mine. I'll gladly throwdown and get my opinions challenged rather than feel that I don't need to contribute to a discussion.

Bill Gates thinks of himself as 'very nice' compared to Elon Musk and Steve Jobs

Reply in thread

Do you have articles on Gates' work causing harm on the food sector? I'd love to learn more.

He had some valid reasoning behind preventing an open source covid vaccine. Whether it was the right call is up for debate.

The most prominent reason that stuck in my mind was to ensure the vaccines were of high quality and made using proper equipment. This is reasonable as a bad one could've drastically reduced trust among the general population.

Ahsoka S01E08 - Discussion

It had its moments, but I think they do a lot of setup with weak pay-off. This leads to emotional stuntedness.

Morgan becomes a witch? Gets a cool sword too? I bet she's gonna do some wild magic! ... Oh it's just a normal swordfight.

Her being left behind seemed to have an emotional beat. Then when Ahsoka meets up with her, there wasn't really any emotion to be had in their face-off. Just throw in a few quips from Ahsoka like "Thrawn sacrificed you like he does all his pawns" and then Morgan could be all like "Lies! He gave me magicks!" and she'd do a scary spell on Ahsoka that makes her disadvantaged.

And imagine when Ahsoka is surrounded by stormtroopers and we get the Sabine fakeout, Morgan quips something like "look who was left behind now" only to get blindsided by Sabine who is armed with a tacky one-liner like "behind you!"

Idk, just give me emotion, please. Ahsoka was better than Kenobi on average, but I have to say Kenobi had a strong ending scene between Vader and Obi. That alone made the show hit like a truck.

Emotion is what sets Andor miles ahead. This same applies to the first season of Mandalorian for most part. Strong characters and powerful moments. That's Star Wars, not a generic zero stakes hallway fight with stormtroopers.

Tuomas ei puhunut koiralleen saamea, sitten hän sai puukosta – tästä on kyse Lappia repivässä riidassa

Ei mikään helpoin ongelma ratkoa. Saamelaisilla on ehdottomasti oikeus äänestää edustajansa.

In the announcement they're showing a character that's still a work in progress.

You're saying they should push back the release of a fully functional game because they're gonna get 1 more character ready somewhere near the beginning of March?

Based on what was shown, they're fully redoing the mocap of a character with a 100+ moveset. This is a lot of work.

DLC is entirely sound when your goal is to support the game post-launch for years. This income justifies a slew of balance patches, large esports event funding as well as the addition of more characters.

You could argue that the Day 1 DLC of golden suit skins is a cashgrab or the retro t-shirts. This would be more valid, as they indeed are repackaging ready content as DLC. However, it's just a golden suit and should be considered a tip to the developers.

Masterson Accuser Resurfaces Icky Clips Showing Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis

The man is backing a scientologist who was convicted of multiple accounts of rape. Some flack his way is ok.

Generally speaking all that's required for a "smear campaign" to form is someone doing something prominently shitty. You will see a lot of accompanying articles begin to form in different media outlets, because media collectively looks at what's topical.

You know how say... a celebrity dies. Every news outlet on Earth is going to do an in-memoriam. You'll then begin to see a lot of TIL posts like "did you know that Christopher Lee fought in the second world war?" or "Christopher Lee made a metal album when he was 90". Because people read those articles and then regurgitate their findings.

It's not a secret society conspiracy. Let scientologists focus on that.

Cryptography may offer a solution to the massive AI-labeling problem

Unsure how this will really help. Anyone looking to really do damage using AI generated content would just make their own fork and run locally.

This content won't have these hashes. Using the hash as a certificate of authenticity could just lead to a false sense of security. Unless we were to move towards applying said hashes to any and all content. Not just one generated by AI. That's a colossal undertaking given the developmental overhead it introduces.
