Got banned for posting in my new subreddit

I was invited to be a mod by other small mods cause they want to grow a legit community not those ai slob subs with bot mods. Then my task just post and engage and never auto ban just anyone. Talk to them if there is a problem. Then I just keep posting naturally in my 2 subs. Then the next day I got banned with no reason and my sub got hammer ban. I get notified I broke the rules. I appealing and nothing happen. I don't know if wanna go back.

150k karma account PermaBanned for "threatening violence"... for describing a plot point from a book.

The offending comment was straight up just "x character joins a terrorist cell and y character is tortured to death by secret police"

If anyone is curious I was comparing the ending of the musical Wicked to the book. I even used spoiler tags and quotes :(

Bam, sitewide ban. It wouldnt strike me as so shitty if I hadnt been keeping tabs on a literal hate sub they havent done anything about for months that is inciting like actual tangible violence against LGBTQ+, Jewish, and Black people and is at the point now of just posting names they think are jewish from journalistic publications. Like genuinely wild shit.

Cant help but feel like it's fully mask off now so fuck spez, bye neo nazi hell, hello Lemmy. The enshittification over there ramped up the rage engagement and algorithm and its spiralling out, been a foot out the door for a while now and this was the last push.

I got sniped by a bot. Now I'm here

Basically, I've talked about this story before, I had an account with almost 100k karma, I liked participating posting high quality stuff. I think it's nice to be part of a community.

Then I posted an NSFW meme in an NSFW subreddit that triggered a bot and said "Your Post was Removed by Reddit's filters" and I thought, Welp it's fine I'll try to reupload it another time, I refreshed the browser and boom, I was permanently banned for absolutely no reason.

I don't know what the bot picked up since I literally didn't use a bad word, I didn't even think about appealing the ban because it doesn't like almost ever get checked by actual human beings, It's just a bot saying "No, we believe your ban was fair even though we didn't check it sorry"

So what now?

Welp Reddit mostly has a 100 Day IP policy, meaning they store your latest IP you got banned with or the one you signed up, for 100 days. Even though making a new account is considered a ban evasion, It's them sort of unofficially wink wink giving you another chance.

I do think their system is harsh because again Reddit is too big and whoever decided that it was a good idea to have an appeal system that doesn't get checked by human beings, wasn't the smartest guy. I think the proper appeal system would be to have some sort of a ticket and speak to a Reddit admin even after weeks, but to be fair It's one of the biggest community centered social media so I'm not sure how that could work, but hey maybe just saying don't ban people permanently unless for really messed up stuff, just saying.

Since then, I have changed my network I went on a new program with my ISP, not because of the ban but I basically upgraded my old connection, I have a dynamic IP and I thought why not, I've cleared my cookies, I've formatted my PC and technically, I'm in the clear already, however I haven't made a new account yet.

I might go back

Yeah eventually I will, don't get me wrong I do like Lemmy it doesn't have the bullshit filters Reddit has, with Reddit I always had this feeling that if I'm too active today I might trigger a bot that thinks I'm spamming so I always had this feeling that if I do something out of the norm I'll be banned for whatever reason, I've seen people getting banned for saying "Fuck ICE" so yeah.

I am a free speech absolutist, I think people should talk about their views. there were a couple of people on r/askconservative that were chill and r/politicalcompassmemes was mostly filled with edgy fascists but to be fair it was fun, because you got to read different views and I admire that in a way.

I do think there should be moderation, as is on Lemmy. I believe without moderation you could have people trying to maliciously "abuse" the system, but Reddit has to cut the bullshit bots that just wrongly flag your messages, so far with Lemmy it's much smoother but it's not as populated which is a big issue for me because with Reddit I used many niche subreddits.

So will I go back on Reddit? Probably yeah, am I rushing though? No.

Reddit banned me for absurdity of its own.

My account has been banned by reddit for a most absurd reason.

First, I recieved warnings text of which said they were auto generated. Since auto generated content is least reliable, I ignored them.

Second, the warnings were themself irrational. Social media always has a share button. If a post is supposed to remain private, either it should be mentioned on top of it or shall be posted in a private community. Posts I shared were on public pages and I did not claim copy right. In fact, details of model and photo studio were explicitly visible.

Now I'm very very disappointed by Reddit. What sort of naive policy is it. I had an account with 10K karma. Had made some original posts with 100s if likes n shares. I want my reddit account back. I don't want to make a new one. I want my original account un-banned. Kindly guide me how may I proceed??

Reddit blocks posts by new users without a clear solution to the problems.

I sometimes use Reddit as a search engine to solve various problems, where there is a chance to find something, but if you want to publish something, then the pain begins, posts are blocked by some kind of filter. I know this is done to protect against spam, but as a newcomer to this social network, I don't understand how to solve this. It's like you have to be chosen, do everything by their rules, and even write to some moderator personally about this problem. This social network has long since ceased to respect freedom of speech, just like 4chan, where the same thing happens. That's why I was looking for alternatives and came across Lemmy, which respects freedom of speech and has different servers with their own rules, which is very cool, but I would really like as many people as possible to know about it.

Crazy gun nut threatened to shoot me using his alt account and somehow I got banned for figuring out who he was

The Heritage Foundation spinoff SPN holds a yearly event where all their policy think tanks across 50 states get together and discuss strategy. This year it was in my city. I had the absolute gall to publicly share their list of speakers and donors that they sent out via a mailing list that literally anybody could join.

Apparently some rich asshole that loves guns got very angry bc somebody they care about was on the list of like 100+ speakers, and surprise of the century, the people getting rich destroying our country, don't want it publicly known they're associated with the people and policies destroying our country.

They started repeatedly threatening to hunt me down and shoot me and my family.

I posted to a local subreddit asking if anybody knew who he was to please get him help because I am literally afraid to go to law enforcement about this. I'm about 99% sure I know who this guy is. I don't want to call him out, I don't want anything but for him to just leave me and my family the fuck alone.

The city and state where I live has always been corrupt as fuck, and I'm pretty sure the lawyer that is threatening me is tight with local law enforcement based on his social media. I spent the majority of my life living in corrupt towns in the deep south. I was taught by my own mom at a very early age, if something happens, don't trust the local police, go to the FBI.

Unfortunately, the U.S. is corrupt as fuck right now and the people that held the conference in my city also currently "run" the federal government. This exact scenario has been something I've worried about happening since Jan 20th, 2025.

Honestly don't know wtf to do at this point. Mainly just posting this to document all this. I guess if this dude fucking kills me, somebody please start a gofundme to help get my family to Canada safely.

Just had to report a literal pedophile on Reddit

I got a reply to a comment I made about how upsetting that picture going around of Trump and Ivanka on a motorcycle when she was younger is. Somebody replied something along the lines of "a dad should be able to take a picture with his daughter," and I replied back, thinking maybe he was just kind of oblivious and didn't understand why it was so upsetting.

Then I looked at his comment history, and now I want to puke. I reported him but given that one of his comments has already been removed (can't even imagine what that one must have said to get removed while the others haven't) I'm guessing Reddit isn't going to do shit about it. Maybe this guy is just trolling, I don't know and I don't care that shit is not ok.

Banned on Reddit for speculating that Trump and Elon stole the election

Banned on Reddit for the following:

I'm not one to believe conspiracy theories whatsoever, but the one I would not be surprised by is how he and Leon have made so many comments / slip ups that strongly imply that stole this election.

It'd be one thing if it was just once, but the sheer amount of different ways they've said it is mind boggling:

Given that Drumpf and Leon are currently in the process of dismantling our government for their own personal gain and that Drumpf is completely incapable of NOT bragging about his crimes in front of everyone it worries me that it may actually be true and we will never know it.

Got perma banned for messaging people on a snail mail sub

This has been one long annoying situation reddit put me in.

Basically, I belonged to random acts of cards (since 2017) one day I was messaging people asking for their mailing info and I guess I messaged too many people in a short period of time. I got temp banned for 3 days. Then it happened again even though I tried to be careful. Got perma banned. So I made a new username because damned if reddit is going to stop me from engaging in one of my favorite hobbies. Had that username for about 5 months and something signaled to reddit that it was me, circumventing my [very stupid] ban in the first place.

Now every time I tried to make a new username (tried deleting cookies/cache, using a VPN, etc.) it gets banned within a few hours. It’s been EXTREMELY frustrating and unfair. It’s not like I was engaging in malicious behavior!!!

So I finally said fuck reddit admins. They have ignored all of my appeals so I’m here.

What mundane thing did you say to get banned from reddit?

I've been reading a lot of comments lately about people getting banned for really mundane things. Some as much as upvoting a comment.

My 11 year old reddit account got banned. I still don't know exactly what I said but I believe it was for talking about the US invading Canada and how we Canadians would fight back.

I think the funniest thing was getting banned from r/politics for posting two lines from the lyrics of Kidnap the Sandy Claws - a song from a kids movie Nightmare Before Christmas. A KIDS MOVIE!

"Kidnap the Sandy Claws, throw him in a box. Bury him for ninety years, then see if he talks"

I don't even remember the context of posting it, but it was about Santa Claus. You know, a fictional character.

Pathetic.

Hello Lemmy World-Goodbye Reddit

So, I'm joining to say Hi. Just got permabanned from Reddit, and my appeal denied.

They're really big on punishing the victim there. You make a post, someone attacks you in one way or another, and if you respond YOU get the penalty.

My case was that I posted pictures on an LED lighting sub, asking advice on under-cabinet lighting. Well, some people, instead of answering the question started shit with me about the clutter on my countertops. I called one user out on that, pointing out that that was NOT what I was asking about, and he apologized. Cool...

Some other busybody wanders in to the conversation to tell him that he had no need to apologize. I called THAT guy out, pointing out that his "input" wasn't asked for, nor wanted. I don't even think I called him names, but I DID tell him to basically mind his own fucking business.

I get banned, for "threatening or glorifying violence". I've been through the conversation a dozen times at least, trying to find the whole "violence glorifying" part, can't find anything at all, and my single appeal that I was allowed got denied.

I just want a site where I can browse communities like Reddit (I used it a lot for tips on home maintenance, LED projects, lockpicking as a hobby, etc.), but where there is an ACTUAL appeal process and not a lot of HOA Presidents in training with the keys to the castle.

I hope I found the right place. It seems cool so far. :-)
