How much does it cost to host your own Peertube instance?

Basically as the title asks. It looks like the .wtf instance is down again, and I'm starting to think more seriously about hosting my own instance. I imagine I'd have to pay for the domain name, and for a server to host it, but are there any Peertube instance hosters that can confirm if there are other costs involved?

Edit: Looks like the .wtf instance is back up, so thanks to the admin for that! However I'd still take any advice I can get on setting up an instance in case it's needed

What's the best/your favourite route into London?

I'm a bit of an environmentalist at the best of times, but pretty much anyone can agree that driving into London is not the best way to get there. From the traffic, to the congestion charge, to the expensive parking.

I've always been driving to Thornhill Park and Ride near Oxford, and taking that into London, but at about £35 on the day, I think I could do better. I would take the train, but that's about double the price from where I am!

What do you guys do when you have to go to London? Do you have any secrets for getting there cheaply? This question will probably vary depending on where you guys are in the UK, but I think it'd be interesting to hear a variety of strategies anyway!

Gurren Lagann fans: What exactly is "spiral power"?

(spoiler warning)

I feel really stupid for having to ask this after seeing the Gurren Lagann recap movies, but what exactly is this "Spiral Power" that the show starts referring to in its second half? Throughout the whole anime, the main character Simone's favourite weapon is a drill, so in a literal sense, he's physically using the power of a spiral to fight.

But as the show goes on, it's revealed that humans are "spiral beings", meaning they're capable of using spiral power, among other spiral beings in the multiverse. Drills can shoot lasers as part of their spiral power, creatures that hang out with spiral beings can withhold spiral power of their own, and the main antagonists fear that the use of spiral power will lead to the destruction of the universe??

Was there an explanation to this that I totally missed or something? Is spiral power still something that comes primarily from Simone's drill? Is it more of a Dragonball-style energy wave that you're not supposed to think too hard about? Does it refer to the spiralling power upgrades that the characters go through, and it's meant to be a metaphor for humanity's ability to self-improve? Does it not really matter in an anime that's more about the character's ability to break through anything with sheer testosterone and willpower? Is it all meant to be left up to interpretation? I swear, I've seen this anime twice and now the recap movies too, and I STILL have no idea what it's about!

dhmis·Don't Hug Me I'm ScaredbyCumbrianCucumber

The Don't Hug Me I'm Scared YouTube channel is active again!

It looks like both the main DHMIS YouTube channel and the Channel 4 channel are promoting DHMIS clips on YouTube shorts, for the first time since the TV show aired 3 years ago!

Obviously, a couple of years ago Becky and Joe made it official that there's no DHMIS currently in development, so it would be crazy to assume this is some kind of confirmation of a series 2, but I'm still hopeful! That was a year and a half ago now, and it's pretty common nowadays to use YouTube and social media to gauge interest in a show in case they'd want to bring it back! Also, the Don't Hug Me I'm Scared YouTube channel doesn't really upload anything unless they have a damn good reason to! They didn't even promote their own TV show until a couple of weeks before it was aired.

Also of course the DHMIS TV show became international via the website a year and a half ago, so it has a much bigger audience now!

RIP Rob Grant

To those who don't know, Rob Grant - one of Red Dwarf's two main writers - passed away recently on the 25th February. He had co-written every episode of Red Dwarf for the first six series. Rob had also worked on Spitting Image in the 80s and had written several Red Dwarf novels, including one that is set to be released on July of this year. Look out for Red Dwarf: Titan.

Rest in peace you genius! It's better to have loved and lost, than to have listened to an album by Olivia Newton-John

Is Digimon relevant again?

Does anyone else feel like new life has been breathed into the Digimon franchise in the last few years?

The anime's coming back more often without 4-6 year gaps between the series

Digimon Story: Time Stranger has been received amazingly well, and according to Google Trends, more

people were searching Digimon during its release than any time since 2004!

Disenfranchised Pokemon fans are giving Digimon another chance after Pokemon's recent quality

Digimon's overarching message that the Digital world is an amazing place, but is full of threats and constantly under attack goes really hard in the 2020s

I'm not sure if it's just my algorithm, but I feel like more people on YouTube and social media are talking about Digimon again

Or did Digimon never stop being relevant any I'm just starting to see more of it again?

Anyone remember the Amazing World of Gumball episode written by Becky and Joe?

It was really funny and surprisingly creepy and had Don't Hug Me I'm Scared's auteurism written all over it!

The more time goes by, the more surprised I am that it ever actually happened, that writers of a kid's show looked at DHMIS and thought "let's ask them to make an episode!"
