The Japanese broadcaster TV Tokyo has announced that it will begin streaming English-subtitled episodes of the Naruto anime series, about one hour after their Japanese broadcast, to paid monthly subscribers worldwide on the Crunchyroll video service on January 8, 2009.
Crunchyroll will then provide free Internet streaming of the episodes seven days after the paid subscribers see them. This coincides with when the online video services Joost and Hulu are providing their own free streaming of the same episodes via Viz Media. Viz Media announced earlier today that it will also begin hosting free streams of the new episodes on the official Naruto.com website on January 15.
On January 8, Crunchyroll will stop accepting user-submitted videos and other content from individuals, and only host videos approved by copyright holders. Gonzo and Toei Animation are two other major Japanese copyright holders of anime that decided to stream on Crunchyroll. ANN interviewed Crunchyroll founder Vu Nguyen in March.

Update: BB Watch reports that TV Tokyo will distribute five anime series, including Naruto and Gintama, worldwide on the same day that they broadcast in Japan. ANN has added more background information to this article.
Update 2: Crunchyroll has posted a press release corroborating the details in TV Tokyo's press release on Naruto.

The manga centers on Kurumi Fukuka, a college student who will make her debut on the foreign exchange market in order to recover the 20 million yen (about US$126,000) her late mother lost in that market. She believes that it will be easy to get back that money, and with that goal in mind, she jumps into a world where things can turn from heaven to hell in an instant. Unrealized losses and loss-cutting, a racing heart that won't stop... Despite this, she wants to buy, sell, and earn. She is joined by other "FX fighters," and the market heats up. Kurumi continues to play a cute and slightly dangerous money game as charts swing back and forth. Can Kurumi and her friends survive in this raging world?
What's a *Guyver* doing in *Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken*?
OK the question is partly a joke... But let's be honest, that's a Guyver! or at least some sort of clone like Aptom. What's he doing in Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken? 😂 Curious to hear people's hypotheses on how he got there. Maybe Otherworlders can come from other parallel Japanese universes too?
Oh yeah I'd like more Zoanoids and Dr. Barcas/Balcus too! Or maybe I've actually already seen someone like him in TSSDK?
Magic represented by 2D patterns in anime and manga
Since quite a few years back, it's been quite commonplace in fantasy anime and manga to represent casting magic as some kinds of 2D circles or geometric figures with patterns, possibly multiple ones, as in the image on the right (Frieren). I see this idea used in almost all – if not all – anime and manga now.
It hasn't always been that way though. Older anime and manga used other and different kinds of representations, say from blinking stars (image on the left, Majokko Megu-chan) to smoke, or even just sound effects.
I'm just curious: does anyone have any info or links to share about how this "2D representation" came about and why it's become so popular? Cheers!
What's your favorite anime? Only tell us by quoting it and seeing if we can guess
Over a year ago I made this post: https://lemmy.world/post/29657860 welp, given a good amount of the comments are deleted and it's been a while. Figured I'd redo this one.

The story follows the life of a young woman with an intellectual disability who ends up involved in nighttime work, leading to a tragic outcome. Critics accuse the work of profiting from the exploitation of vulnerable people and demand that its production be halted.

It's such a dumb premise but I guess it's so stupid that it works.
Did you watch it? What's your favourite quote? Would you fly to Thailand to become an idol?
Anyone have thoughts abt Blue Archive anime?
